Later in the inning, Coltin Piefer had an RBI double and Brian Goebel reached on an error to score Tayler Rupnow. Argyle scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. Black Hawk's bats broke out again in the sixth, as the Warriors scored five to take an 8-6 lead. Goebel, Kyle Priebe, Brady Meythaler, and Cory Rupnow all had RBIs in the sixth. Beloit Turner 10, Brodhead-Juda 0
BRODHEAD - Brodhead-Juda struggled both in the field and at the plate in a loss to Beloit Turner.
Bo Hutchison started on the mound for Beloit Turner and pitched the first three innings. He was relieved by JC Hughes, who pitched the final two frames. The duo combined for a one-hitter against the Cardinals.
"They both had good breaking balls. We're pretty inexperienced, so when we see a good curveball it baffles us right now," said Brodhead-Juda coach Tom Nipple.
Derek Turner started on the bump for the Cardinals and gave up nine runs (seven earned) in three innings of work.
"Derek didn't pitch too badly," Nipple said. "We didn't give him much support on defense. We gave them six outs in the third when they scored five runs."
Brodhead-Juda (0-12) doesn't have too much time to think about the loss Tuesday, as the Cardinals turn around and play the Trojans again on Thursday, May 16. Nipple said his team will need to be solid in the field to have a chance.
"Our pitchers can't be walking so many," he said. "And we have to play better defense behind our pitchers."
Cambridge 15, New Glarus 4
NEW GLARUS - The New Glarus baseball team was unable to overcome an early offensive outburst from Cambridge, as the Glarner Knights fell to the Blue Jays.
Cambridge scored three in the first to take an early lead before blowing the game open with a nine-run second inning. New Glarus responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Cambridge tacked on another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
"They hit the ball. They came out and absolutely crushed the ball," New Glarus coach Ross Eddy said of Cambridge. "We played well defensively when it was hit to us, but when it's not hit to us, there's not much you can do. They jumped on us early."
Ashton Jelle relieved New Glarus starter Kyle Larson after two innings and was able to slow down the Cambridge offense over the final four.
"Ashton's been kind of a pitcher for us who can't throw a lot of innings, but the innings he throws are solid," Eddy said. "He throws a little harder and throws strikes. He's a nice change-of-pace pitcher for us."
Gavin Binger was the leading Glarner Knight at the plate. Binger went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kyle Xistris and Connor French also each had a double for New Glarus. Eddy said he's excited about the progress Binger, a freshman, has made this season.
"He's come a long way. From day one he's started at short for us," Eddy said. "Each day he gets a little bit better and better. I'm excited for the next few years for him. Hopefully he will be our rock in the future."
