McGuire first-team All-Badger

Sophomore Chandra McGuire earned first-team status and was joined by four Monroe teammates on the second team of the All-Badger South Conference softball team.

McGuire primarily played catcher for Monroe and made the first team at the utility position. She took a .333 batting average with 12 RBIs into last weekend's state tournament.

Cheesemakers on the second team include junior pitcher Becca Armstrong, senior center fielder Kasey Gutzmer, sophomore shortstop Ellie Grossen and sophomore first baseman Kayla Updike.

Armstrong went 18-8 and recorded 22 complete games and six shutouts. Her ERA entering the season's final weekend was 1.36.

Grossen set the Monroe single-season record for hits with 41 and was the Cheesemakers' leading hitter at .419 entering the state tournament.

Updike carried a team-leading 21 RBIs into state while her .370 average enteing state ranked third.

Monroe senior left fielder Alyssa Montgomery received honorable mention. She took a .231 batting average into the state tournament.
