STOUGHTON - The Monroe Cheesemakers got everything they could ask for in a 13-1 win in five innings over the Stoughton Vikings in Badger South softball play Tuesday.
Monroe's 13 runs tied for the program's second-most runs in a game this season and helped avenge a 2-1 loss to the Vikings in cold weather earlier this season.
Six different players had at least two hits and the Cheesemakers collected 15 hits for the game.
Senior Kristin McArdle had an unforgettable day by going 3 for 3 with six RBIs including a two-run double and a three-run triple. Seniors Kelsey Erickson and Kaylee Craigo and junior Kasey Gutzmer each went 2 for 3 and freshmen Chandra McGuire and Ellie Grossen went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Monroe also got a strong pitching performance from sophomore Becca Armstrong who had a two-hit shutout going through four innings. Armstrong gave up one run, fanned three, and did not walk a batter.
After scoring a run in the second inning and two more in the third, the Cheesemakers chased Stoughton starting pitcher Kelli Blum, a four-year starter who had allowed the second-fewest runs in the Badger South this season, with six runs in the fourth inning.
Monroe (10-8, 6-5 Badger South) has two doubleheaders left this week. The Cheesemakers will host Baraboo Friday and then Juda on Saturday, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
