MADISON - Mitch McArdle finished in fourth place individually and Monroe took fifth as a team Monday at the Madison Memorial Invitational at Blackhawk Country Club.
McArdle shot a 4-over-par 76 playing from the black tees.
"The course is very old and has many mature trees, so keeping the ball in the fairway is a must," Monroe head coach Jeriamy Jackson said.
"Mitch played great. He was playing smart and keeping the ball in the fairway using irons and controlling his game much better. On top of that, he was putting better."
McArdle had trouble on just one hole, where he shot a triple bogey. Other than that, he was only 1-over-par.
Brandon Wilson shot an 81 and Aaron Krattiger carded an 85. Kyle Bruce (93) and Garrett Voegeli (95) rounded out Monroe's scoring.
"All of our guys played pretty well. It is a tough course and one that really makes you concentrate on your game instead of just swinging away as hard as you can on every tee," Jackson said.
Cody Strang of Madison Edgewood won the individual crown, outshooting Andrew Steinhofer of Madison LaFollete, teammate Shane Sweeney, McArdle and Tim McCormick of Verona. Edgewood also won the team title with a score of 307. Middleton was second with 311, McFarland and Verona each shot 327s.
Monroe travels to Milton today to play at Bonnie Meade, starting at 3:30 p.m.
