Mat Rats win home tourney

MONROE - The YMCA Mat Rat wrestling team hosted 430 wrestlers from 40 teams at its annual Youth Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 24.

This was one of the largest Mat Rat tournaments in years. Teams came from all over northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

The Mat Rats took home the first-place team trophy with 56 competitors in the tournament.

Team trophies also went to Oregon, which placed second, followed by Brodhead and Sauk Valley.

Placing first, in their respective brackets, were Joah Wellman, Beckett Smith, Owen Voegeli, Payton Weckerly, Jack Dubach, Brady Schuh, Jaden Clark, Lukas Andersen, Alex Witt and Bodie Minder.

Placing second were Jaden Leistiko, Hayden Hitchins, Garrett Minder, Christian Schuh, Garret Voegeli, Luke Dubach, Logan Clark, and Julian Gruber.

Placing third were Wyatt Smith, Wyatt Weckerly, Memphis Brewster, Elliot Ballard, Gage Jelle, Noah Schuh, Dylan Mader,

Cole Meighan, Shane Ziolkowski, Lane Meier, Chelsey Gilbert, Roderick Rath, Carter Trolinger, Jace Amacher, Sean Rufenacht, Riley Goebel and Colten Beckman.

Placing fourth were Patrick Harms, Beau Hoesly, Eli Andrews, Waylan Andersen, Kraig Walter, Lukas Gerber, Eli Salzwedel, Dominic Vazques, Joe Rufenacht, Nate Fuchs, Kade Paulson, Caleb Smith, Tristen Vazquez, Molly Patterson, Sebastian Watkins, Kyle Haldiman, Dakota Wickstrum, Max Patterson, Zack Roper, Austin Smiley and Dawson Bethke.

The Mat Rats are adonating half of the admission fees to the Green County Food Pantry.

The YMCA Mat Rat Wrestlers traveled to two youth tournaments over the weekend. On Saturday, at the "Fear the Bird" Marshall Youth Wrestling Tournament, Alex Witt and Bodie Minder placed first, while Garrett Minder placed third.

Fourteen Mat Rats participated at the Evansville Youth Tourney on Sunday.

Placing first were Jaden Leistiko, Owen Voegeli, Christian Schuh and Patrick Rielly.

Placing second were Noah Schuh and Garret Voegeli.

Placing third was Jack Dubach.

Placing fourth were Waylan Andersen, Logan Clark, Brady Schuh, and Jaden Clark.

Placing sixth were Lukas Andersen and Roderick Rath.

Placing seventh was Luke Dubach.
