MONROE - The Mat Rats were swimming in a mighty big pool last weekend and came away with some great marks.

The Green County Family YMCA program sent 19 wrestlers to tournaments, including Verona's Warm-Up to Regionals Tournament that included 600 entrants and eight-man brackets.

Drake Ingold came away with the gold among wrestlers born between 1999 and 2000 while Trevor Gorr and Reave Lincoln followed suit in their respective '95-96 ladders.

Cole Murray and Dylan Scace added fifths in Ingold's young division while Dempzy Foley pitched in an eighth.

Troy Gorr and Kevin Klopfenstein both earned seconds in the '95-'96 category; Dusty Burkhalter took a third. Terri Holmes placed fourth in the division, Aaron Hesgard fifth and Eric Timm seventh.

In the '97-'98 division, Traiten Gorr placed fourth, McKenzy Foley took fifth and Sky McGregor took seventh.

Over in Dodgeville, Colby Argall and Hayden Arneson represented the Rats proudly with a gold medal apiece in the K-2nd and 3rd-4th grade levels, respectively.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Nick Poirier took first place in a Davenport, Iowa tourney. The next day, Poirier headed north to Milton where he took third place and McGregor matched his effort, also with a third.

The season's body of practice paid off during this past weekend's regionals. Tune in later this week for recaps from the eight tourneys held around the state.
