MONROE - The Monroe Area Swim Team swam to a 469-111 win over the YMCA of Dane County in a dual meet Tuesday at the city pool at Rec Park.

The dual meet came on the heels of the Dr. Stiles meet on Saturday.

"I still wanted to see improvement," MAST coach Kendell Niffenegger said. "When you see them working hard, it's really not a surprise to see them dropping time."

Monroe's Megan Benzschawel, 8, finished first in the girls 8 and under 25 freestyle (:23.90) and first in the 25 breaststroke (:31.46). Makayla Harrow-Jubeck won the 25 butterfly (:43.85).

In the 13-14 year-old girls 200 medley relay, Monroe's team of Anna Meritt, Savannah Grenoble, Skylar Lassen and Makayla Harrow-Jubeck took first, with a time of 3:43.27.

In the boys competition, Lucas Sathoff, 7, won the 8 and under 25 backstroke (:32.73). Monroe's Dean DeVoe won the 9-10 year-old 50 breaststroke (1:16.63). DeVoe teamed with Ayden Bergeman, Landon Knobel and Payton Stauffacher to take first in the 200 medley relay (4:55.33). Sathoff teamed with Knobel, Ben Moon, Zachary Meighan to win the 10 and under 200 freestyle relay (4:33.46).

"Everyone has improved their times," Niffenegger said. "A lot of the kids are working hard."

As the summer swimming season enters the final two weeks, Niffenegger knows that when swimmers like Schwartzlow go on to college, they still can make an impact as a coach.

"We will definitely miss her," Niffenegger said of Schwartzlow who is finishing her last summer season of competition. "Many of the younger swimmers look up to Leanna (Schwartzlow), Will Fenner and Marissa Berg."
