NEW GLARUS - In a Capitol South Conference showdown Thursday, Marshall senior Brandon Neuberger scored a game-high 25 points and drilled five 3-pointers to lead the Cardinals to a 75-59 win over New Glarus.

"We knew he (Neuberger) was a guy who could score in bunches," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "We knew we couldn't give him any space. He got loose a few times, and he made us pay. I think everyone is disappointed. I know we can play better."

Marshall (11-3, 4-0 Capitol South) took sole possession of first place in the conference with the win and extended its winning streak in the conference to 39 games. New Glarus (8-6, 3-1 Capitol South) lost its first conference game of the season and snapped a winning streak at three games.

The Cardinals had four players reach double figures. Marshall senior Tristan Killerlain added 15 points, and senior Adam Link and junior Adam Wehking each chipped in 11 points.

"They (Marshall) can put five guys on the floor who can all put the ball in the basket," Sysko said.

The Cardinals and Knights each had 18 field goals, and the Knights made two more free throws (17 of 24) compared to 15 of 26 for the Cardinals. However, Marshall hit eight 3-pointers to two for the Knights.

"That was the big difference in the game," Sysko said. "Offensively, a big part of our offense is driving into the lane and then kicking it out for perimeter shots. We just couldn't get them to fall tonight."

New Glarus senior Gavin Binger scored a team-high 16 points. Senior teammate Trey Taylor, and freshman Jaden Kreklow each added 13 points.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 33-23 lead at the half. The Knights cut the deficit to four points early in the second half.

Marshall shot 21 free throws in the final 6 minutes when the Knights were fouling in an attempt to get the ball back. Killerain made 8 of 10 free throws down the stretch in the second half. The Cardinals finished 15 of 26 at the line.

"Right now we have to focus on coming back to practice Friday to try to get better and get ready for Waterloo on Tuesday," Sysko said. "We will worry about Marshall when we come to that bridge again."

New Glarus travels to Marshall for a rematch Feb. 12.
