CAMBRIDGE - Junior Kennedy Ludwig scored two goals to propel the Monroe High School girls soccer team to a rainy 4-2 win over Cambridge-Deerfield on Tuesday.
Monroe senior Payton Noble scored the first goal at 28 minutes, 59 seconds, and the Cheesemakers (7-8-2) went into halftime tied at 1.
Monroe scored three goals in the second half. Sophomore Emily Benzschawel scored a goal at 51:49 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-1 lead. Ludwig scored two goals in about a 17-minute span to seal the win.
"The girls did very well adjusting to the conditions," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said of the Cheesemakers playing in the rain. "They connected their passes and took advantage of their opportunities."
The Cheesemakers travel to Stoughton for their final regular-season game at 7 p.m. Friday.
The WIAA girls soccer tournament begins with regional action June 1.
