Lodi stymies Monroe

LODI - The Monroe girls soccer team lost its second straight game, falling to Lodi 4-0 on Monday.

Lodi junior Savannah Curtis scored three goals to power the Blue Devils to the victory.

"Lodi came out ready to play," Monroe coach Kyle Kasten said. "I'm sure they wanted to avenge the loss from last year. They definitely came out hungry and were successful. We are entering a hard part of our schedule. I think the girls gave it everything they had. It just didn't bounce their way."

It won't get any easier for Monroe (4-3-2, 1-0 Badger South) when they host Sugar River, which is ranked fourth in the Division 3 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association state poll, on Friday at Honey Creek Park. The Cheesemakers also still have games against Oregon, ranked third in Division 2 and Madison Edgewood, ranked third in Division 3.

Lodi junior Amber Richter scored the first goal and then Curtis scored moments later to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.

Monroe sophomore goalie Anna Latimer had nine saves.

"The key was they were able to take advantage of their opportunities," Kasten said. "They were dynamic in their attack."
