WIAA statement for re-seeding State Individual Wrestling Tournament
10 advance to individual boys state meet

Good Afternoon,

Here is information we shared this afternoon with member schools that have student-athletes qualified for the State Individual Wrestling Tournament.

We identified an error in application of the seeding criteria within USA Bracketing. Specifically, medical forfeits were being counted as wins when applying head-to-head and common opponent criteria. This was not a system error; however, it was a human error made by USA Bracketing staff when setting up the seed system.

Once identified, the issue was immediately corrected, and 17 of the 42 weight classes were affected. To ensure the seeding system is applied correctly and consistently for all participants, we have re-seeded those weight classes and published updated brackets.

We recognize that making bracket adjustments at this stage may create frustration; however, correcting the issue and applying the established criteria properly is necessary to maintain competitive fairness for our student-athletes.

This is the first year utilizing USA Bracketing, and overall, the platform is functioning extremely well. Wisconsin continues to play a leadership role in refining and improving this system. The USA Bracketing staff has been instrumental in that work and remains fully committed to ensuring the process is accurate and transparent moving forward.

Thank you,

Todd Clark
