MONROE – The Cheesemakers received the No. 2 seed in their WIAA Division 2 half-sectional in the upcoming boys basketball tournament, while Monticello scored a No. 1 seed in D5. The brackets for the upcoming postseason was released Feb. 23, with portions made public the day before.

The opening round is scheduled to be played March 3, with the regional semifinals March 6 and the regional championships March 7. Sectional semifinal match-ups are slated to be played March 12, with the sectional final games to be played two days later.

Division 2

Monroe (15-5) appealed for the No. 2 and was voted ahead of DeForest (15-6). Stoughton (18-3), the Badger South Conference champion, scored the top seed and a first-round bye and will host the winner of Oregon (7-13) and Monona Grove (7-13). Monroe and DeForest also received byes in the opening round.

The Cheesemakers will get either Sauk Prairie (9-10) or Baraboo (4-17) at home March 6, while the Norskies face either Portage (2-17) or McFarland (10-10). Should Monroe advance, the Cheesemakers would host the regional championship March 7.

Division 3

Brodhead (8-12) received the No. 10 seed and will have to face Marshall (14-7) on the road in the opening round. Second-seeded Edgerton (16-4) awaits in the second round, with a potential regional final against either Lodi (14-6), Evansville (12-8) or Poynette (6-15) March 7.

Division 4

The top four seeds all went to SWAL schools, with Capitol South champion New Glarus and Six Rivers West-champion River Ridge barely able to score a home game.

Top-seeded Cuba City (20-0) will host either Boscobel (10-10) or Lancaster (12-8) in the second round, while seconded-seeded Darlington (19-2) gets either Belleville (13-7) or Necedah (13-7). Mineral Point (11-9) is the No. 3 seed and gets the winner of Wisconsin Heights (10-10) and River Ridge (16-4) in the second round. New Glarus (14-6) is the No. 5 seed and will host Brookwood (4-15), with the winner having to travel to Fennimore (15-6) for a second-round matchup.

Division 5

Monticello (20-1) scored the only bye in its sectional. Black Hawk (8-13) scored the 8-seed and will host Pecatonica (6-14) in the first round, with the winner traveling to Monticello for the regional semifinal.

Juda (3-18) is the 12-seed and travels to Central Wisconsin Christian (13-7) in the first round, with the winner taking on either No. 13 Albany (2-18) or fourth-seeded Argyle (15-7).

Randolph (18-3) is the no. 2 seed, with Cambria-Friesland (16-5) the three, Rio (11-10) the six, and Barneveld (7-13) the seven.
