CASSVILLE — Albany out-scored Cassville 21-8 in the second half to force overtime en route to a 45-43 victory in a Six Rivers Conference boys basketball crossover Jan. 3.

The Comets fell behind 33-20 by halftime, but rallied in the second half.

Both teams shot within a single percentage point of 35% from the field in the contest. The difference, quite literally, came at the free throw line. Albany was just 5-for-11 at the charity strip, which was exactly four points better than the 1-4 mark the Rockets put up.

Ty Durtschi led Albany with 17 points. Kaden Zurfluh added 10 points, and Tyler Patchen chipped in with 10 rebounds and seven points.

River Ridge 68, Monticello 21

PATCH GROVE — The Ponies struggled early and had little chance to get caught up to the Timberwolves in their Six Rivers crossover Jan. 3.

River Ridge jumped out to a 45-12 lead by halftime and out-scored Monticello 23-9 in the second half.

The Ponies shot just 20% from the field, including an oh-for-seven mark from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, River Ridge players hit 50% of their shots. Monticello committed 31 turnovers and were out-rebounded 31-23.

Hunter Grossen led the Ponies with 10 points but had 10 turnovers himself.

Marshall 82, Brodhead 54

BRODHEAD — Josh Blum had 13 points and Gabe Bockhop added 12 for Brodhead, but the home Cardinals just couldn’t keep pace with the visiting Cardinals in a nonconference game Jan. 4.

Marshall led 55-32 at halftime thanks to six 3-pointers and a flurry of 2-point buckets.

Brody Riese added nine points for Brodhead, and Brady Flannery chipped in with seven more.

Platteville 73, New Glarus 68

PLATTEVILLE — The Glarner Knights faced a midseason test that should help prepare them for life in the postseason this year. While the game didn’t start off too peachy, the New Glarus coaches were able to motivate their players over the game’s last 18 minutes.

The Knights trailed 44-24 at halftime. However, in the second half, New Glarus out-scored the Hillmen 44-29, nearly completing an epic comeback attempt.

Belleville 77, Poynette 63

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats had four players in double figures in a Capitol Conference crossover game Jan. 3.

Jackson Scholey scored 18 points to pace Belleville, while Adam Cann had 15 and Bryce Babler and Samuel Arndt each chipped in 12. Cann, Babler and Arndt also had six rebounds apiece.

Poynette 65, Brodhead 47

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals fell behind by a dozen points by halftime and couldn’t recover in a nonconference game Jan. 3.

Lakeside Lutheran 60, New Glarus 37

Cuba City 61, Belleville 46

CUBA CITY — The Wildcats kept it close but just couldn’t pull themselves all they way back into a nonconference game with one of the state’s best programs over the past few decades. Cuba City led 36-28 at halftime.
