Warriors easily fend off Albany, Stockton

ALBANY — The top-ranked Warriors had four players reach double figures while Albany suffered just its fourth loss in 15 games. Black Hawk defeated the Comets 68-24 Jan. 10.

Natalie Leuzinger scored 17 points and stole seven balls for Black Hawk. Hannah Butler finished with eight rebounds, four steals, four assists and 15 points. Bailey Butler had 16 points, three steals, six boards and six dimes. Maddy Huschitt added 10 points and was 2-for-2 from 3-point land.

Brianna Dahl was the only Comet in double figures in scoring with 10 points. Libby Beck, an all-conference player last year, was held scoreless by the vaunted Warriors defense. Beck was 0-for-7 from the field.

Black Hawk led 37-7 at halftime. The Warriors forced 24 turnovers — 20 on steals — while turning the ball over just four times total. Albany was just 9 of 33 from the field, including 3 of 14 from deep. 


Black Hawk 60, Stockton 32

LANARK, Illinois — The Warriors stayed unbeaten with a demolition of the No. 5-ranked team in Illinois at the Northwest Illinois Shootout Jan. 12 at Eastland High School.

Bailey Butler, Hannah Butler and Leuzinger all recorded double-doubles for Black Hawk. Hannah Butler scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, stole four passes and went 13 of 15 from the free throw line. Bailey Butler had 10 boards and 15 points, and Leuzinger finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Black Hawk led 32-16 at halftime.


Brodhead 52, Big Foot 37

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals buried the Chiefs with a plus-seven second half in a game filled with whistles.

Big Foot was called for 25 fouls while Brodhead finished with 23. Freshman sensation Kiarra Moe picked up her fourth foul early in the second half and fouled out midway though. Moe and Zoe Tresemer each finished with eight points and five fouls for Brodhead, which also received nine points — all on free throws — from Carissa Purdue, 11 from Madisyn Kail and 10 from Alexis Oliver. 

The Cardinals shot 14 of 36 from the field, including just 1 of 11 from beyond the arc. Big Foot was 11-for-51 from the field, 3-for-12 from deep and 12-for-22 from the charity stripe. Brodhead was 21 of 27 from the line.


Darlington 56, Iowa-Grant 41

LIVINGSTON — The Redbirds held the Bulldogs to just 16 points in the first half of their game Jan. 11 to stay at the top of the SWAL standings.

Kathleen Mathias scored 12 points to lead Darlington (11-2, 6-1), which moved into a first-place tie with Mineral Point and Cuba City with the win. The Pointers (11-2, 6-1) defeated the Cubans (9-3, 6-1) the same day.

Darlington also received nine points from Bethany McDonald and seven from Brenna McDonald and Reagan Crist.


Argyle 60, Barneveld 33

ARGYLE — The fifth-ranked Orioles held the Eagles to just 11 points in the first half en route to a dominating Six Rivers East win Jan. 10.

Jena Saalsaa scored 21 points, including 11 in the first half, to lead Argyle. Kirsten Ostby added 13 points for the Orioles, which saw eight players score in the game.


Wisconsin Heights 60, New Glarus 52

MAZOMANIE — Jaylynn Benson scored 29 points for the Knights, but the Vanguards closed it off down the stretch.

Three Wisconsin Heights players scored in double digits. The Vanguards led 31-28 at halftime.


Monticello 61, Juda 38

MONTICELLO — The Ponies picked up a Six Rivers East win Jan. 10 against the Panthers.

Alyssen Noriega scored 14 points to lead Monticello, which had four players in double figures. Miah Brokopp scored 13 for the Ponies, while teammates Harley Disch had 12, Abby Wicker 10 and Mackie Errthum seven.

In other action, Potosi-Cassville defeated Pecatonica 62-39 in a nonconference game Jan. 12.
