DARLINGTON — With 10 pins and nine forfeits over two matches, Darlington-Black Hawk easily defeated its two opponents in a home triangular Dec. 13. The Warbirds upended the Brodhead-Juda Cardinals 60-18 and the Parkview-Albany Vikings 59-11. In the remaining match of the night, Brodhead-Juda defeated Parkview-Albany 48-20.
In the DBH versus Brodhead-Juda match, Lohmar gave the Cardinals their only lead with a pin of David Arguelles. Lohmar recorded two takedowns before pinning Arguelles 17 seconds into the second period. Trailing 24-12 at the 144-pound match, Jameson Wallin gave Brodhead-Juda its final points. He chose bottom to begin the second period and got two points on a reversal before pinning Parker Mossley at 3:48.
There was one girls match between the two teams, where DBH’s Ashlynn Eckerman pinned Brodhead-Juda’s Lily Scheidegger in 1:11.
Slater Valley and Wesley Egan were the bright spots in Parkview-Albany’s loss to DBH. Valley began with a 15-0 tech fall over Phoenix Johnson. Egan, ranked fourth in his respective division and weight class, started off slow against Kaden Drake, who recorded the first takedown. But, Egan was awarded a penalty point and recorded a reverse and nearfall to lead 6-3 after the first period. In the second, Egan took Drake down again, eventually pinning him in 3:32.
In the 157-pound match, PA’s Peter Roth nearly took down DBH’s Rucker Weiskircher. Trailing 7-5 entering the second period, Roth chose bottom. He escaped then took down Weiskircher for three points. In a quick change of events, Wesikircher got the reversal and pinned Roth moments later.
The matchup between Parkview-Albany and Brodhead-Juda featured 10 forfeits — only four matches were actually played out. Of those four, the Vikings won three. Roth won by 21-6 tech fall in 4:27 over Rush West, Egan pinned Kavion Cupps in 1:35 and Elijah Gunn won in sudden victory over Chase Wilhite. In the final seconds of the third period, Wilhite earned the reversal to tie it up at 8-8. But Gunn quickly earned the takedown in extra time for the victory.
Wrestlers that went 2-0 on the day — not including forfeits — were Egan with two pins, Evan Sigafus with two pins and Owen Seffrood with a pin and tech fall.
