WarBirds 4th at Lancaster; Monroe falls to Milton

LANCASTER — Darlington-Black Hawk finished fourth, while Brodhead-Juda was 11th at the Lancaster Invite Jan. 5.

Leif Bredeson was the champion in the heavyweight class for the WarBirds, winning a pair of major decisions and a pin to go with a bye on the day. Bredeson defeated Cuba City-Benton-Southwestern’s Troy Leibried 12-3 in the championship.

Cayden Milz was second in the 160-pound weight class, going 3-1 on the day. Milz lost to Dubuque Wahlert’s Connor Dehn 13-4 in the finals.

Carson Lobdel was third at 170 for the WarBirds, which also got third-place finishes from Hunter Bredeson at 152 and Kolbe Ubersox at 145. Bailey Shilling (220), Owen Huschitt (132) and Cashton Hauser (106) all took fourth for Darlington-Black Hawk.

Brodhead-Juda’s Jackson Hauri was first in the 152-pound weight class, knocking off Cuba City’s Shaedyn Lane in the champion on a 5-2 decision.

Lancaster won the team title at the invite, with Sparta taking second and West Salem/Bangor third.


Sauk Prairie Invitational

SAUK CITY — Sugar River finished 10th and Pecatonica-Argyle was 13th in the 19-team tournament Jan. 5. Host Sauk Prairie won, finishing ahead of West Bent East, River Valley and Wisconsin Dells.

Joe Quaglia finished second at 120 pounds for Sugar River, losing in the championship to West Bend East’s Dan Ciriacks by a 7-3 decision. Robert Chenoweth (145) and Daniel Enloe (285) each finished fourth for the Raiders.

Dawson Gross (106), Kristian Orloff (126) and Easton Schraepfer (152) all took fourth for the Vikings.


Milton 61, Monroe 14

MILTON — The Red Hawks dominated the Cheesemakers in their Jan. 4 dual match.

Alex Witt, Julian Gruber and Bodie Minder each scored Ws for Monroe in three-straight matches. Witt, wrestling at 182, pinned Charlie Eckert. Then Gruber, at 195, defeated Josiah Richardson 2-0. Minder, newly ranked No. 8 in the state at 220 according to the Wisconsin Wrestling Online rankings, pinned Caleb Peters.

Milton won nine of its 11 matches via pin.
