Walker rains 3s in Cards win

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals shot eight 3-pointers to defeat East Troy 72-63 on Thursday, Dec. 8. The win was Brodhead’s first in conference.

The nine-point differential came at the free-throw line, as Brodhead went 12-for-17 while East Troy was just 3-for-10.

Cullen Walker recorded five of Brodhead’s shots from beyond the arc, as he put up 31 points. He also grabbed six boards for the Cardinals. Brody Riese also had a record night, as he totaled 11 points with 12 rebounds for a double-double. Sam Searls and Nathan Engen also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

East Troy was guided by a 22-point performance from Jon Gulig. Like Walker, Gulig was hot from beyond the arc with six 3-pointers. Aiden Taylor was the second highest scorer with 14 points. He shot the remaining four of East Troy’s 10 3-pointers. Josh Erman finished with a team-leading five rebounds and 10 points. 


BLACK HAWK 53, WESTON 39

CAZENOVIA — The Warriors got back to .500 with a nonconference win over Weston on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Black Hawk had a 29-point lead after the first half with six different players contributing offensively. Andrew Figi led the team with 12 points, half of them coming from beyond the arc. Carter Baumgartner chipped in seven points with shots at the free-throw line, inside the arc and beyond the arc.

The Eagles got contributions from Alex Hasse, Garrett Granger, Kohlton Catherall and Isaac Jennings.

Lucas Milz, who had five points in the first half, scored 10 in the second with two 3-pointers. Trae Hagen added five points.

Weston shot three of its five 3-pointers in the second half — two of them from Jennings and one from Hasse.

In total, Figi finished with 16 points to lead the Warriors. Milz also scored in double figures with 13 points.

For Weston, Jennings scored a team-leading 10 points. On the boards, Granger and Garrett Jennings had five rebounds each.


STOUGHTON 73, MONROE 56

STOUGHTON — The Vikings proved why they are the No. 8 team in Division 2 with their conference win over Monroe on Friday, Dec. 9.

Stoughton never trailed, scoring 35 points in the first half and 38 points in the second half. Although Monroe scored just three less points in the second, the first-half deficit was too much.

James Seagreaves led the Cheesemakers with 12 points and six points. He fouled out of the game in the final minutes, though. George Brukwicki scored 11 points, with nine of them beyond the arc. Brandon Bassett was the third player in double figures with 10 points. He contributed two 3-pointers. With eight rebounds, Keatin Sweeney led Monroe on the boards.

The duo of Jacob Hibner and Ty Fernholz led Stoughton with 23 and 22 points, respectively. They had 13 of the team’s 18 3-pointers. Sawyer Schipper and Jay Johnson had recorded two each, with LeShawn Brown sinking the final three.


ARGYLE 70, MONTICELLO 54

ARGYLE — The Orioles had four players in double figures in their conference win against Monticello on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Argyle jumped to an early 23-4 lead, with the score at halftime 37-18. Although the Ponies outscored the Orioles 36-33 in the second, the first-half deficit was too much.

Ike Waage scored a team-leading 21 points with four rebounds. William Helfvogt followed with 18 points, half of which came from beyond the arc. Mason McNett and Max Godfrey chipped in 14 points each. Godfrey was one rebound away from a double-double, as he had a team-leading nine rebounds.

As a team, the Orioles were 9-for-13 from the free-throw line for 69%. Waage was 3-for-4, while McNett went 4-for-5.

Ryer Indergand provided the Ponies with nearly half of its offensive, as he scored 26 points with four 3-pointers. The other half of Monticello’s threes came from Nick Roe, Alex Roe, Jackson Eyler and Peyton Smith. The next highest scorers were Austin Skibbe, Eyler and Smith with five points each.

The Ponies shot just below 50% from the free-throw line at 4-for-9. Indergand went 2-for-6, while Skibbe and Collin Blum had a free throw each.


CFC 64, MONTICELLO 47

WISCONSIN DELLS — Monticello suffered its second loss of the weekend at the Wisconsin Dells Just a Game Fieldhouse on Saturday, Dec. 10.

The Ponies had a 6-5 lead early in the first, but Cochrane-Fountain City closed the half on a 27-15 run. Although Monticello had a 7-0 spurt in the second half, the Pirates ended the game on an 11-5 run to secure the win.

Indergand scored 24 points to lead the Ponies. Peyton Smith followed with 12 points. The pair also had eight rebounds apiece. Alex Roe grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds. 

For CFC, Cameron Upinski scored 13 points. Andrew Bissen also scored in double figures with 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Moises de la Torre and Fletcher Theusch nabbed four boards each. 

In other Six Rivers East action, Juda fell to Barneveld on the road 79-18
