Walker drops 40 in Brodhead’s win over Wisconsin Heights

BRODHEAD — Junior Cullen Walker scored a career-high 40 points in Brodhead’s 81-57 win over Wisconsin Heights in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Walker’s previous career-high was 35 points against Whitewater in the 2022-23 season.

Walker shot 50% beyond the arc in Brodhead’s latest contest and was 4-for-4 at the line. Brody Riese recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Gabe Bockhop also finished in double figures with 10 points. Jaxon Dooley led the team with six rebounds, while Walker and Bockhop tallied five each.

Reed Adler and Jon Vosburg scored 20 points or more in the Vanguard loss.

ARGYLE 66, RIO 58

ARGYLE — The Orioles and Vikings entered the locker room at halftime tied at 29, but Argyle came through for a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal win on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Will Helfvogt scored 31 points and accounted for all five of Argyle’s 3-pointers. He also was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Mason McNett was the only other Oriole in double figures with 11 points. 

Eric Eku (15 points) and Sam Hartley (11) finished in double figures for the Vikings. 

PECATONICA 55, SAINT AMBROSE 51

BLANCHARDVILLE — Jameson Johnson had just two first-half points, but the senior exploded in the second for 16 in a Viking win over the Guardians in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Johnson scored all of his points inside the arc, including a 6-for-9 performance from the line. Elijah Knutson drained three 3-pointers for nine points, while Evan Dochnal and Charles Anderson chipped in eight each. 

Jacob Sturm and Paul Emmel finished in double figures for the Guardians. 

BARNEVELD 77, BLACK HAWK 30

BARNEVELD — The Warriors scored just four second-half points in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal loss to the Six Rivers East champion Eagles on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Andrew Figi led Black Hawk with 19 points, including the team’s only 3-pointers. As a team, the Warriors were 8-for-9 from the line.

Barneveld had three players in double figures, including Nick Poad (19 points), Kasey Helgeson (14) and Terek Marx (11). Eight other Eagles found their way into the scorebook.

ABUNDANT LIFE 79, JUDA 23

MADISON — The Panthers deflected 17 Challenger passes, but ALCS controlled the game in every other aspect, leading to a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal win on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Jayden Brown led Juda with nine points, while Easton Hess and Blake Adkins grabbed three rebounds each. Micheal Hosch deflected a team-high five passes. 

Two Challengers scored in double figures, led by Nolan Wallace with 14 points.
