Tyler McKeon is one of two starters returning to the Pecatonica boys’ basketball team. He averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game last season.

PECATONICA — The Vikings scored 945 in 24 games last season with the help of Hunter Enole and Kegun Brunker, who averaged 15 points per game each. With the duo’s graduation, Pecatonica will need to find scorers if they want to remain competitive.

Senior Coy Ruegsegger was the only other player besides Enole and Brunker to earn All-Conference accolades last season as an honorable mention selection. He averaged 8.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. Tyler McKeon is the remaining starter returning for the Vikings, having averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds per game last season.

Other varsity returners include juniors Jameson Johnson, Elijah Knutson and Evan Dochnal. Head coach Matt Fink anticipates five other players seeing the court and making an impact: Ethan Meyering (JR), Max Steele (JR), Glenn Jayne (JR), Connor Sass (SO) and Grady Gordon (SO).

While his team won’t be short of competitive spirit or athleticism, Fink worries about his team’s overall height compared to others. Sass is the tallest at 6’3” with five others at or above 6’0”. McKeon, Jayne and Gordon all come in under 6’0”.

Last season, the Vikings finished fourth in conference (7-5) behind champions Monticello (12-0), Barneveld (9-3) and Black Hawk (8-4). Fink believes Monticello and Barneveld will remain at the top of the conference and that Argyle – fifth in conference last season with a 3-9 record — will make a jump and be competitive this season, too.
