MONTICELLO — In the first game of a boys-girls varsity doubleheader at Monticello Jan. 23, the visiting Pecatonica Vikings routed their hosts 58-32.

Griffin Noll led the way with 13 points, while Connor Sass added 11 for Pec. Martin Anderson, Luke Leonard and Charles Anderson each further contributed eight points.

Monticello was led in scoring by Hunter Grossen (9).

“I like the effort the boys played with tonight, but too many turnovers killed us,” Monticello coach Mark Olson said after the game.

The Vikings kept the Ponies from finding any momentum on offense in the opening half thanks to executing a full-court press defense. Pecatonica took a 28-12 advantage into the locker room at intermission.

“We want to be a little bit more up-tempo ... It’s more about keeping people off-balance and taking uncomfortable shots,” Vikings coach Scott Noll said.
