ARGYLE — Needing a win to get their season back on track, the Vikings put together a convincing victory in Week 6, pummeling Boscobel 51-6 Sept. 28 for Argyle’s Homecoming.

“It was good for the kids to get a win. It’s always important to get a win on homecoming,” Pecatonica-Argyle coach Blake Bukowski said. “Last week (against Southwestern) we came up just a little bit short, but the kids got out of the basement this week and prepared well. We kept things basic and they executed.”

The Vikings dominated the Bulldogs in all three facets of the game — offense, defense and special teams. The offense punished Boscobel all game, methodically collecting nearly 200 yards on the ground and adding another 118 yards through the air. Quarterback Hunter Enloe was a perfect 6 for 6 passing with two touchdowns.

“I just tried to do my thing and do it the best I can,” Enloe said. “We had good focuses all week and good practices. We just showed up and played.”

Defensively, the Vikings held Boscobel to negative yards until the final drive of the game, where the Bulldogs marched 49 yards against the second string late in the fourth quarter. In all, Boscobel had just 33 yards of offense, and just four of its 10 drives resulted in positive yardage.

Our defense has been great all year. We had one game where we were a little off, but we corrected some of those mistakes. Our defense keeps us in games, and that’s why we can battle.

The Vikings did more than just stop Boscobel’s running attack. Pecatonica-Argyle scored twice on defense in the second quarter. A poor snap on fourth down from the 29 scooted away from Boscobel punter Thomas Lenoir, who tried to kick the bouncing ball out of the end zone. However, the ball came to a rest inches from the goal line and Easton Schraepfer jumped on it for a TD, which made it 28-0 with 8:55 left in the second quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, a block in the back penalty and a false start pushed the Bulldogs to begin their drive from their own three-and-a-half yard line. Schraepfer and Clay Ritschard smoked the running back and quarterback behind the line of scrimmage on the exchange, forcing a fumble, which was then recovered by Boscobel QB Noah Loos in the end zone for a safety.

“It’s a big deal for our defense and shows just how much our focus was up this week,” Ritschard said. “It definitely feels good getting the win. We have a tough road coming ahead. We just have to keep grinding and do what we’re doing.”

The Vikings led 14-0 after the first quarter and 37-0 at halftime. Their final score came moments into the fourth quarter when a punt was blocked and Griffin Gordon returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Boscobel (0-6, 0-3 Six Rivers East) didn’t score until trailing by 51.

Ritschard led Pecatonica-Argyle in rushing with 82 yards and two touchdowns on six attempts. Zander Brunker had 38 yards on eight rushes, and Schraepfer had 46 yards and a TD on nine carries. Keegun Bunker had three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown, while Chevy Hughes finished with two catches for 46 yards and a score.

(The win) feels great. We needed the extra motivation coming into these next couple weeks with a couple hard opponents.
Pecatonica-Argyle QB Hunter Enloe

“I thought Hunter Enloe looked great today. He’s only a sophomore and he looked tremendous all day. He made some great throws under pressure and made some great decisions in our speed option. He’s taken a lot of steps forward since taking over as the starter,” Bukowski said. “Easton, he’s just a great kid and should be playing running back; he’s been our backup quarterback and he’s so versatile. He’s been willing to help the team and he’s played guard for us the last two years. We wanted to reward him by getting the ball to him.”

The Vikings (2-4, 1-3) will try to keep the momentum alive in Week 7 against Potosi-Cassville (4-2, 1-2).

“(The win) feels great. We needed the extra motivation coming into these next couple weeks with a couple hard opponents,” Enloe said.
