Brodhead Cardinals Lose To Turner In First Place Match-Up

The Brodhead Cardinals were one out away from winning their first place match-up with Turner on May 1, but Turner pitcher Olyvia Piranio hit a game-tying two-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning to send it into extra innings. In the 11th inning, Emma Bue delivered an RBI single to give Turner a 4-3 win over Brodhead in a RVC-Rock Division game at Brodhead. Senior pitcher Ava Risum pitched all 11 innings and allowed four runs, three of them earned. Risum walked none and struck out nine. Junior Leah Rear got two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Risum picked up a base hit and scored a run for the Cardinals. Junior second baseman Keegan Steinke went 2x5. Brodhead fell one game behind Turner for first place in the RVC-Rock Division at 7-3 while Turner improved to 8-2. Turner won the previous meeting between the two teams on April 15, 3-2.

On May 2, Risum hit a home run and struck out 10 batters in relief to lift the Cardinals to an 11-5 win over the East Troy Trojans in a nonconference game. Senior Tatum Ceslok hit a double, and drove in three runs while freshman Ellie May Allen went 3x4 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Mady Henning started the game in the pitching circle before giving way to Risum in the second inning. Henning contributed with a double and three RBIs. The win puts the Cardinals’ overall record to 10-3 with a conference game at Clinton on May 5.

Argyle-Black Hawk Drops Conference Game To Benton-Shullsburg 

Benton-Shullsburg overpowered Argyle-Black Hawk with a four-run first inning and a six-run sixth inning to beat the Orioles 12-9 in a Six Rivers softball on May 1 at Benton. Senior center fielder Maddy Lange hit a triple and drove in two runs and junior shortstop Kylie Butler got a hit, an RBI and scored two runs to lead the Orioles. Senior catcher Ava Wiegel had two hits, including a double and an RBI.  Senior pitcher Mya McNett started and took the loss. She walked five and struck out nine batters. Argyle-Black Hawk’s record fell to 2-10 in the Six Rivers with the loss. 

On May 2, the Lena-Winslow Panthers scored a run with one out the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 walk-off win over the Orioles in a nonconference game at Lena. Butler led the Orioles with two hits and drove in three runs. Junior third baseman Sam Kammes went 3x4 and scored a run. Pitcher Mya McNett gave up six runs, but only two were earned. With the loss, Argyle-Black Hawk dropped to 6-12 overall. The Orioles were to travel to Monticello-New Glarus on May 5 and to Southwestern on May 6.

Monticello-New Glarus Scores 8-1 Win Over Potosi-Cassville

The Monticello-New Glarus Ponies smacked five extra base hits in an 8-1 win over Potosi-Cassville in a Six Rivers Conference game on May 1 at Potosi. Molly Olson, Karlee Wilkins, Sadie Wilkins, and Brooke Ryan each had a double and Eliza Legris legged out a triple as the Ponies piled up 14 hits. Molly Olson, a junior, went 3x3 with a walk, an RBI and scored four runs. Pitcher Heidi Olson, a freshman, allowed just one run on three hits. She walked two and got five strikeouts. At 7-3 in the Six Rivers, the Ponies are two games behind the conference front-runners Barneveld and Belmont, who are the top two ranked teams in the latest WFSCA  Division 5 poll. Monticello-New Glarus improved to 9-3 overall with the win. The Ponies host Argyle-Black Hawk in a Six Rivers game on May 5 at Monticello.


Cheesemakers Lose Pitchers Duel With Big Foot

Senior catcher Brinley Roidt hit a home run and senior Kaegann Paulson allowed just one earned run, but Big Foot generated just enough offense to edge the Monroe Cheesemakers, 2-1 on May 2 at Walworth. The Cheesemakers trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning when Roidt launched her third home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Paulson surrendered just six hits, but one of the hits was a home run by Lily Wolf of Big Foot. Wolf also accounted for the Chiefs other run with a sacrifice fly. Third baseman Alexis Herbst hit a double for Monroe, one of only four hits by the Cheesemakers. Monroe’s record dropped to 13-6 with the loss. The Cheesemakers are at Delavan-Darien in a RVC-Valley game on May 6.


Juda-Albany Splits Conference Doubleheader With Highland

The Juda-Albany Panthers split a Six Rivers doubleheader with the Highland Cardinals on May 2 at  Albany.

In the first game, Highland erased a 4-0 lead by the Panthers in the third inning by scoring two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to come away with a 5-4 win. Second baseman Kam Simpson went 2x4 and drove in two runs for Jubany. Shortstop Anna Ellinger and first baseman Anna Bartels each got two hits and scored a run. 

In the second game, pitcher Ryleigh Brown got two hits in three at-bats, including a double and scored a run and allowed one run on five hits while catcher Phoenix Homan went 3x3 with a double and scored two runs in the Panthers 3-1 win over the Cardinals. With the game tied at 1-1, the Panthers pushed two runs across in the sixth inning to get the win. Juda-Albany improved to 6-6 in the Six Rivers and 9-7 overall with the victory. The Panthers have a home game with Monticello-New Glarus at Albany on May 6.


Dodgeville Powers Past Belleville 18-0

The Dodgeville Dodgers put 10 runs up on the board in the first inning and rolled to an 18-0 win in three innings over the Belleville Wildcats in a nonconference softball game May 2. The Dodgers added five runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Sophomore Brynn Prochaska got the only hit of the game for the Wildcats. Belleville fell to 2-9 overall with the loss. Belleville was set to play a Capitol Conference crossover game at Columbus on May 5 before hosting Wisconsin Heights in a Capitol South game on May 6.
