JUDA — Junior Griffin Noll reached the 1,000 point mark for his career and scored 35 points to lead the Pecatonica Vikings to a 73-48 win over the Juda Panthers in Six Rivers East conference action on Thursday Jan 29.
Noll needed just 18 points to reach the 1,000 point mark going into the game. He scored Pecatonica’s first 17 points of the game and was fouled on a three point shooting attempt in the first half. Noll made the first free throw and the game was stopped momentarily as he was congratulated by his teammates, his coach and father, Scott Noll, and the Pecatonica fans.
The Vikings took a 47-20 lead at halftime as Noll scored 27 points. The Panthers made a bit of a comeback in the second half as senior Jayden Brown and senior Teston Gobeli made three-pointers that made the score 63-48 with 4:11 to go, but Pec closed the game on a 10-0 run to get the 25 point win.
Besides Noll, nine other players scored for the Vikings, led by senior Cohlman Schlimgen, who had eight points. Brown led the Panthers with 13 points. Senior Braydon Steinman scored 12 points and senior Easton Hess added 10 points for Juda.
In reaching 1,000 points in his career, Noll said he has seen teams do everything they can to try to slow him down.
“Teams have thrown everything at me and I know what’s coming so I’m mentally prepared for whatever I have to do to get around it. I just have to be ready for it when it comes,” said Noll.
The following night, Juda lost to sixth-ranked Belmont 86-56.
Pecatonica (12-4, 8-3) was scheduled to play a Six Rivers crossover game at Highland on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Juda (7-8, 4-7) had Black Hawk on their schedule for a Six Rivers East game on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Brodhead 55, Albany 45
BRODHEAD — Junior Ty Durtschi of the Albany Comets got the 1,000th point of his career, but senior Nolan Bump poured in 19 points and had three assists to help the Brodhead Cardinals get a 55-45 win over the Albany Comets in boys nonconference basketball on Saturday, Jan. 30.
Senior Sam Searls had 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals as the Cardinals won for the second time in their last three games. Albany was led in scoring by sophomore Brodyn Bakken with 23 points and Durtschi with 14 points on his way to the 1,000th of his career.
Brodhead (2-14) had another nonconference game on their schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at home against Dodgeville. Albany (5-9, 3-8 Six Rivers East) was back into Six Rivers East Conference action with a game scheduled at Argyle on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Barneveld 68, Albany 40
ALBANY — The Albany Comets fell behind 31-15 at halftime and couldn’t catch up to the Barneveld Eagles in a 68-40 loss in Six Rivers East Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 29.
The Comets picked up the scoring in the second half with 25 points, but the Eagles had built a sizeable lead to coast to the win.
Junior Ty Durtschi led the Comets with 15 points and senior Tyler Patchen had 12 points. The Comets did most of the scoring from outside the arc with eight three-pointers.
Monroe 87, Big Foot 48
MONROE — High point totals have become a routine for the Monroe Cheesemakers as they pasted the Big Foot Chiefs 87-48 in a Rock Valley crossover game on Thursday, Jan. 29.
In their last five wins, the Cheesemakers have averaged 88.6 points per game. Those wins have come against Big Foot, New Glarus, Brodhead, Clinton, and Whitewater. The past three games have all ended with the mercy-rule running clock engaged. For the season, Monroe is averaging 66.4 points per game overall. In the RVC-Valley, MHS is second behind East Troy, which is averaging 75.6 points per game.
Against Big Foot, senior Mekhi Brown led the Cheesemakers with 18 points. Senior Logan Taylor had another productive night with 17 points and senior Miles Versnik came through with 14 points.
The Cheesemakers (11-5, 6-2 RVC-Valley) have just three more home games the rest of the regular season. They are on the road for a Rock Valley crossover game scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Turner.
Darlington 66, Cuba City 47
DARLINGTON — Senior Broker Buschor and sophomore Ryder Fitzsimons each scored 17 points to lead the Darlington Redbirds past the Cuba City Cubans in SWAL conference boys basketball on Thursday, Jan. 29.
It was the third straight time the Redbirds have defeated the Cubans. Junior Zeke Zuberbuhler contributed 10 points and four assists in the win for the Redbirds.
Darlington 86, Riverdale 40
MUSCODA — Junior Zeke Zuberbuhler scored 19 points and junior Dante Glendenning had 18 points as Darlington routed the Riverdale Chieftains 86-40 in SWAL conference boys basketball on Friday, Jan. 30.
Senior Broker Buschor had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He was also the Redbirds’ assist leader with seven.
Darlington (13-2, 8-0) had a SWAL game scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 3 on the road at Fennimore.
Belleville 76, Waterloo 52
WATERLOO — Seniors Jackson Scholey and Hazeon Edmond combined to score 52 points in the Belleville Wildcats’ 76-50 win over the Waterloo Pirates in Capitol South boys basketball on Thursday, Jan 29.
Scholey scored 30 points and Edmond scored 22 points while sophomore Evan Edge added 10 points and senior Isaac Patrow grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wildcats.
Belleville (4-12, 2-3) was scheduled to play a nonconference game on Monday, Feb. 2 at home against Abundant Life.
New Glarus 65, Cambridge 56
NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus Glarner Knight have a half-game lead for first place in the Capitol South Conference after edging the Cambridge Blue Jays 65-56 on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Four players scored in double figures for the Knights, led by senior Tatem Stampfli with 16 points. Junior Nolan Julseth scored 14, senior Matt Roth scored 12, and junior Bubba Weeden scored 10 to help the Knights protect a four point halftime lead.
New Glarus is 4-0 in the Capitol South and Cambridge is 4-1. The two teams meet again on Thursday, Feb. 26 in the final game of the regular season.
New Glarus (10-5) was scheduled to play Poynette is a nonconference game on Monday, Feb. 2.
Black Hawk 51, Monticello 43
SOUTH WAYNE — Junior Cole Dunlavey had a monster game for the Black Hawk Warriors, leading them to a 51-43 win over the Monticello Ponies in Six Rivers East action on Thursday, Jan. 29. Dunlavey had a double-double, scoring 16 points and getting 14 rebounds as the Warriors got their second win this season over the Ponies. They also won on Dec. 30 against the Ponies at Monticello 50-37.
Freshman Kayden Stauffacher and junior Brody Argall each had 10 points for the Warriors.
Junior Hunter Grossen led the Ponies with 18 points. Junior Tanner Hilliard put up 11 points for Monticello. The Ponies had eight three-point baskets and five two-point baskets in the game.
Black Hawk (4-11, 3-7) had Juda at home on their schedule while Monticello (0-14, 0-10) had a home game with Barneveld on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in Six Rivers action.
Parkview 77, Argyle 65
ARGYLE — Senior Aiden Crane sizzled from the floor, scoring 38 points in the Parkview Vikings’ 77-65 win over the Argyle Orioles in nonconference boys basketball on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Junior Louis Nath had a productive outing as well with 24 points and four rebounds.
Argyle got a balanced attack as sophomore Joe Soper scored 22 points, senior Deacon Kuebli scored 21 points, and senior Jeremiah Collins scored 15 points for the Orioles.
Two days earlier, Argyle lost to Potosi-Cassville 79-56 in a Six Rivers crossover.
Parkview (16-3, 7-1 Trailways South) holds a half-game lead in the conference over Abundant Life (13-4, 6-1). The Vikings had a home conference game scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3 against third place Johnson Creek (9-8, 5-2).
Argyle (7-9, 5-5 Six Rivers East) had a conference game scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at home against Albany.
