Teams fare well at Platteville
Monroe boys 4th; Darlington 1st, NGM 2nd

Monroe’s Dylan Fahrney finished 11th overall in the boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 1.1 seconds at the Platteville Invite Sept. 29.

PLATTEVILLE — Monroe’s boys cross country team took fourth in the large school division at the annual Dick McKichan Platteville Invitational Sept. 29, while Darlington and New Glarus-Monticello took 1-2 in the small school division.

Kyle Legler paced the Cheesemakers with a seventh-place overall finish with a time of 16 minutes, 45.0 seconds. Dylan Fahrney was 11th (17:01.1), Alex Henry 33rd (17:48.4) Brennan Shelton 47th (17:59.6) and Jake Brower 56th (18:19.2).

Brodhead-Juda was 10th in the large school division, which was won by McFarland. Jacob Staffon led the Cardinals with a 38th-place finish (17:51.8). Carter Urness was 84th (18:52.0), Trenton Condon was 98th (19:14.4), Brady Bruns was 106th (19:38.0) and Royce Brauer was 120th (20:14.2).

Darlington’s Payton Heinberg took second place overall with a time of 16:21.2. McFarland’s Andrew Pahnke had a time of 15:59.2.

Also scoring for the Redbirds were Tucker Lange (18th, 17:12.1), Trae Schilling (36th, 17:50.9), Rhett Reuter (57th, 18:19.8) and Bailey Schwartz (18:19.8).

New Glarus-Monticello was paced by Adam Nelson’s 24th place finish (17:30.5). Conor McCoy (39th, 17:52.0), Rudy Wicker (40th, 17:52.7), Evan Guenther (46th, 17:59.3) and Joe Quaglia (49th, 18:02.3) also scored runs for the Knights.

Albany was eighth in the small school division, with Josh Dahl leading the way with a 22nd overall finish (17:18.2). Owen Baertschi (104th, 19:36.7), Luke Johnson (105th, 19:37.4), Andy Gertsch (129th, 20:47.9) and Nathaniel Ross (145th, 22:30.8) all scored for the Comets.

On the girl’s side, Darlington finished second in the small school division behind Lancaster, with Albany taking third. 

Darlington’s Ilse Mendez was fifth overall with a run of 19 minutes, 49.0 seconds. Judith Meister was 13th (20:28.0), Bethany McDonald 43rd (21:56.6), Allyson Meyers 44th (21:56.8) and Morgan Black took 49th (22:07.1).

Albany was led by Madison Peters (21:02.3), who placed 20th overall. Emileigh Dallman was 29th (21:39.7), Megan Anderson 38th (21:48.9), Payton Wacholz (21:51.8) and Kaiya Zurfluh 61st (22:26.7).

New Glarus-Monticello was seventh in the small school division, with Dayna Karls leading the pack with a 62nd place finish (22:30.2). Annie Fuller was 96th (23:25.0), Emily Streiff 125th (25:02.7), Alexa Thayer 128th (25:07.7) and Libbie Melvin was 137th (26:32.1).

In the large school division, Brodhead-Juda’s girls team finished eighth with Madelynn McIntyre’s third place finish (19:22.9) leading the way. Nicole Kamholz (21:42.0) was 32nd, followed by Zoe Tresemer (80th, 23:03.2), Carisa Purdue (82nd, 23:03.4) and Kyleigh Rupp (90th, 23:10.3).

Monroe was 13th as a team, with Jacie Hayes leading the way with a 16th-place finish (20:55.2). Jazmyn Mader was 93rd (23:18.4), Elise Smith 99th (23:40.5), Elery Bazely 112th (24:00.6) and Maddie Bartelt 121st (24:29.8).
