Sugar River wins the Championship of the Swiss Kick Invite at New Glarus on May 17. The Raiders rolled past Baraboo 7-1 in the semi-finals. The Raiders scored three goals in the first half and added four goals in the second half. Senior Anya Brenkman scored three goals and had two assists to lead the Raiders. Sophomores Nikole Schultz and Kate Parman each got a goal and an assist. Sophomores Holly Maynard and Ellie Brenkman each tallied a goal. Junior Kennedi Esser and senior Audry Brueggemann each contributed with an assist. Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Ohms came up with four saves.
In the championship game, Sugar River blanked West Salem 3-0. The Raiders got two first half goals and got another goal in the second half while shutting out the Panthers for all 80 minutes. Anya Brenkman scored two goals and Audry Brueggemann added a goal while senior Kylie Humke and junior Cora Funseth each had an assist. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Ohms had one save. First place Sugar River is now 14-2-1 and travels to Lodi in Capitol conference action on May 20.
Monroe Wins First Game This Season
The Cheesemakers defeated Clinton-Turner on May 16 by a score of 4-1. It was Monroe’s first win of the season. Mary McKenzie had a hat trick (three goals) and Anna Mann added another. Mads Joseph made several big saves in goal.
