Sugar River improves to 8-0

The Sugar River Raiders have run their record to 8-0 following a 5-1 win over Dodgeville-Mineral Point in girls soccer at Dodgeville on April 22. The Raiders got the scoring started at 18:08 in the first half on sophomore Kate Parman’s goal and assist from senior Anya Brenkman to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Sugar River made it 2-0 at 23:49 in the first half when Brenkman assisted again on a goal by sophomore Nikole Schultz. Dodgeville-Mineral Point closed to within 2-1 on a goal at 29:45. The Raiders scored three goals in the second half to put some distance between themselves and Dodgeville-Mineral Point. Brenkman took a pass from senior Kylie Humke and scored at 49:34 to go up 3-1. Schultz connected at 52:05 on Brenkman’s assist to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Raiders. Sugar River closed out the scoring on Brenkman’s goal and Schultz’s assist at 55:49 to make the final Sugar River 5, Dodgeville-Mineral Point 1. Goaltenders Mackenzie Ohms registered five saves and Savanna Minter had six saves for the Raiders.

Sugar River is 2-0 in the Capitol Conference and is ranked #7 in Division 3 girls soccer. Sugar River faced Holmen at UW-La Crosse on April 25 in non-conference action.

In other area soccer action, Monroe broke its losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Jefferson on April 21 at T.R. Holyoke Field. The Cheesemakers are now 0-5-1 on the season. Monroe was set to play at Beloit Memorial on April 24 and at home May 1 against Whitewater/Palmyra-Eagle.
