NEW GLARUS — The Sugar Rivers Raiders got their seventh and eighth shutout wins of the season last week. On May 22, the Raiders beat Madison Country Day/Abundant Life/St. Ambrose (MCD) 5-0 in nonconference game. Two days later, Sugar River defeated Stoughton 1-0 at home.
Against MCD, The Raiders held a 1-0 lead at halftime, then took control with four unanswered goals in the second half.
Sugar River got the only score they needed in the first half as senior Anya Brenkman scored a goal with an assist from senior Hannah Boldebuck at 5:43 to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Sugar River increased the lead to 2-0 when Brenkman got her second goal and Boldebuck got her second assist at 42:04. The next three goals were unassisted. Sophomore Nikole Schultz found the net at 50:35 to give the Raiders a 3-0 advantage. Junior Taya Gilbertson made it 4-0 with a goal at 64:47. Brenkman added her third goal of the night at 71:22 to give the Raiders a 5-0 victory. Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie Ohms secured the shutout with four saves.
In Saturday’s nonconference win over Stoughton, Brenkman assisted Zoey Lovejoy for the game-winning goal in the second half. Ohms had four saves in net.
Sugar River (16-2-1, 5-0 Capitol Conference) have just one regular season game remaining — at Lodi (8-3-1, 2-2-1) on May 29. A win would give the Raiders the outright conference championship.
The Raiders also received the No. 2 seed in the upcoming WIAA Division 3 postseason. Sugar River has a first round bye and will play 15-seed Jefferson on Thursday, June 5 in New Glarus.

Lodi defeats Monroe, 8-0
