BELLEVILLE — Sugar River hosted the 2022 Raider Scramble on Saturday, Dec. 10 and crowned three champions — Mason Mau (132), Eli Leonard (152) and Carson Loshaw (195) — to take second place (223.5 points). Evansville won the meet with 241.5 points and four champions: Blake Frey (106), Lincoln Keller (126), Danny Heiser (138) and Charlie Braunschweig (170).
Mau pinned Isaac Zwieg of Evansville and Jameson Wallin of Brodhead-Juda before a 7-5 decision over second-place finisher Carson Menehan of Monroe.
Loshaw pinned his way to victory, with two falls coming in the first period. Chase Wilhite of Brodhead-Juda finished third in the bracket with an 8-1 decision over Tanner Zastoupil of the Reserves.
Leonard was undefeated in Pool A with two pins. He bested Adryan Wessels of Evansville by tech fall 19-3 in the semifinals and pinned Wyatt Nelson of Evansville for the title.
The Raiders had four others finish second.
Blake Endres (113) pinned third through sixth place finishers — including a pin of Deerfield’s Ruben Bach in just 57 seconds. Endres’ only loss came to Charlie Meudt of Dodgeville. Meudt won by a 14-4 major decision to take the bracket.
Ashlin Mihlbauer (126) took second to Keller, falling with short time in the second period. In all his other matches, though, Mihlbauer pinned his opponents.
Ryker Swenson’s (160) only loss came to Mason Winch of Dodgeville. Winch pinned Swenson in 1:17 in the second round, otherwise, Swenson won the remaining four rounds by fall.
Alex Zielinski (170) made quick work of his opponents in the first four rounds with pins at 21, 32 and 48 seconds. His fourth pin occurred at 1:48. In the fifth round, though, Braunschweig got the best of Zielinski with a pin in the third period. Karson Miller of Brodhead-Juda finished third in the bracket with three pins.
Brodhead-Juda finished fourth of eight teams with 142.5 points. Of their nine wrestlers, the Cardinals had three champions in Marcus McIntyre (145), Clayton Elliott (182) and Emmitt Allen (220).
McIntyre went 5-0 with four pins. Of the four, three of them occurred in the first period. His final win came by forfeit. Trei Udelhoven of Sugar River finished third in the bracket. He went 3-2 with two pins. He defeated fourth-place finisher Max Kaether of Evansville by a 7-0 decision.
Elliott went undefeated in his bracket, too, with three pins. He defeated second-place finisher Brayden Engelkens of Evansville by a 12-3 major decision. Aidan Keyes of Sugar River took third with two pins, both occurring in under a minute.
Allen earned his title with different results in each match. Eli Martin of Deerfield forfeited, finishing fifth. Allen then defeated Izaak Duran of Dodgeville with a pin in 30 seconds. Against third-place finisher Tucker Peterson of Evansville, Allen didn’t allow a single point en route to a 16-0 technical fall. Garrett Pauli of Sugar River and Allen battled for first, with Allen winning 6-0. Pauli earned second with a forfeit from Martin, 12-9 decision over Peterson and pin of Duran.
Joe Lohmar (138) went undefeated in his pool with three pins in the first period. In the semifinals, Lohmar defeated Brennan Keyes of Sugar River by a 5-0 decision. Hesiser then bested Lohmar by technical fall 17-2 in the championship. Keyes ended up with a third-place finish, defeating teammated Cayson Helwig by a 4-2 decision.
Monroe finished fifth with 130.5 points, as Isaac Bunker (285) was the Cheesemakers’ lone champion.
Bunker won handily in all four of his matches, pinning his opponents in less than 30 seconds each time. Landon King of Brodhead-Juda took third with a 2-2 record with two pins. In his match with Isaac Erb of Sugar River, Kind pinned Erb with just 16 seconds left in the third period.
The Cheesemakers had two second-place finishers in Owen Voegeli (106) and Jaden Liestiko (120).
Voegeli recorded three pins, all in the first period. He fell to Frey in the third period to take second.
Liestiko made quick work of the fourth- and fifth-place finishers, pinning them in 43 and 50 seconds, respectively. With time just 24 seconds left in his match against Race Howlett of Evansville, Liestiko battled for a pin. He then fell to Reid Spurley of Dodgeville.
Parkview-Albany was also in action on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Oakfield Holiduals. The Vikings took first defeating Oakfield 60-6, Big Foot-Williams Bay 33-30, Princeton-Green Lake 42-21 and North Fond du Lac-St. Mary’s Springs 26-30.
Ian Suer, Sam Schwengels, Wesley Egan and Slater Valley went 4-0, while Evan Suer and Danny Finley picked up three wins.
Pecatonica-Argyle took five wrestlers to the Waunakee Warrior Invite on Saturday, Dec. 10. The team finished 21st in a pool of 30.
Aidan Gruenenfelder (106) took first with three pins and a 22-6 technical fall. Sammy Nelson (145) and Levi Paust (220) finished third in their respective brackets.
