BELLEVILLE — Sugar River placed second with 202.5 points at the Sugar River Raider Scramble on Saturday, Dec. 13. Freshman Brooks Krauss of Sugar River won the championship at 132 pounds with a pin in 2:40 over Nathon Palazzolo of The Lincoln Academy. 

The Monroe Cheesemakers earned a respectable fourth place finish with 148 points. Highlights for the Cheesemakers were second place finishes from Noah Schuh (126), Weston Huntsman (138), Connor Eckdhal (157), and Alex Anastacio (215). Oliver Helland (165) and Patrick Harms (190) took fifth place, while Isaac Diaz (144), Ian Benitez (150), and Carson Austin (285) secured seventh place. Oliver Ostby (144) finished eighth. 

Darlington finished in fifth place with 142.5 points. Gage Ruf (215) won his championship match with a pin in 36 seconds over Cassius Cook of Fort Atkinson. 

Parkview-Albany was eighth with 105 points. The Vikings were led by Tavin Bomkamp, who won his championship match at 150 pounds over Ashlin Mihlbauer of Sugar River with a pin in 1:44.

Black Hawk-Shullsburg-Warren finished in ninth place with 82.5 points. Sophomore Evan Sigafus won a championship at 126 pounds as he pinned Noah Schuh of Monroe in 1:41. 

Brodhead-Juda ended up in 12th place. Sophomore Thomas Lohmar of the Cardinals won his first-place match against Kyan Lentz of Sugar River with a pin in 3:44.

DeForest won the wrestling tournament with 235 points.

Cheesemakers win all three duals at Dodgeville Quad

DODGEVILLE — The Monroe Cheesemakers won the Dodgeville Quad by sweeping all three dual meets over Pecatonica-Argyle, Dodgeville, and Darlington on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The Cheesemakers topped Pecatonica-Argyle 52-24 as Weston Huntsman (138), Oliver Ostby (144) Connor Eckdhal (157), Patrick Harms (190), Alex Anastacio (215), and Noah Schuh scored pins for the Cheesemakers.

Monroe downed Dodgeville 42-29 as the Cheesemakers got three pins in a stretch of four weight classes. Connor Eckdhal got a pin over Braydenn Husom of Dodgeville at 157 pounds in 3:13. That was followed by Oliver Hellend’s pin at 165 over Isaac Vondra of Dodgeville at 165 pounds. 

Monroe closed the quadrangular with a 34-33 win over the Darlington Redbirds. Darlington got pins by junior Ruck Weiskircher (150) and junior Parker Mosely (157) to take an early 12-0 lead. Monroe countered with a pin by Connor Eckdhal at 165 and senior Kabian Ramos’ major decision over Ryker Crist at 175 to get to within 12-10. With Darlington leading 33-16, Monroe came back to win as junior Noah Schuh (132), sophomore Weston Huntsman (138), and sophomore Isaac Diaz (144) each received a forfeit to win it for the Cheesemakers.

 

Lady Cheesemakers 9th at Waunakee Invite

WAUNAKEE — The Monroe Lady Cheesemakers took ninth place at the Waunakee Girls Invitational on Friday, Dec. 12. 

The Lady Cheesemakers scored 69 points in the 32-team tournament. The day was highlighted with junior Althea Eckdhal securing first place at 145, freshman Evelyn Eckdhal in third place at 132,  and freshman Addi Treuthardt taking third place at 152.

Pecatonica-Argyle finished 23rd with 19 points. Darlington did not score in the tournament.
