MCFARLAND — Sugar River saw its season come to a close with a 4-0 loss to top-ranked McFarland in a WIAA Division 3 boys soccer regional final Oct. 26.
The Raiders, which won the Capitol Conference title during the regular season, end the year with a 12-8-1 overall record.
To get to the regional final, the Raiders defeated Cambridge-Deerfield 2-0 Oct. 24 at Reddan Park in Verona.
Breckin Faber scored the opening goal against Cambridge at the 31:01 mark of the second half on a pass from Charlie Douma. Ten minutes later, Ryan Downing found David Murray for a goal. The Raiders outshot Cambridge 15-8. Julian Lutz had two saves in net for Sugar River.
Mount Horeb 11, Monroe 1
MOUNT HOREB — The Vikings wasted little time in putting the Cheesemakers into a hole too deep to climb out of.
Mount Horeb took a 1-0 lead just 14:07 into the game. Less than 14 minutes later it was 4-0. Alex Torres had Monroe’s lone goal, which came at the 34:04 mark in the first half.
The Vikings (12-6-1) led 5-1 at halftime and scored six goals in the first 25 minutes of the second half. Monroe goalkeepers made eight saves in the game while allowing 11 goals. The Cheesemakers (3-14) finished with just five shots on offense.
