SOUTH WAYNE — The Black Hawk Warriors swept the postseason Six Rivers East awards after finishing the year 9-0 in league play.

The unbeaten Warriors had four players named all-conference, as well as the player and coach of the year. 

Senior outside hitter Bailey Butler was first-team all-conference and named the league’s player of the year, joining her sister Hannah, a 2019 graduate that won it in the two previous seasons.

“It means a lot. Conference player of the year has been in our family for a long time and it’s nice to have it my senior year, especially through all this COVID stuff,” Bailey Butler said.

Rachel Wolff was named the league’s top coach. Senior setter Macie Stauffacher was a first-team selection, while senior outside hitter Makayla Mau was second team and senior libero Erika Schultz was honorable mention. The Warriors went on to reached the sectional final for the first time in 20 years before losing a heartbreaker in five sets to Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran.

“Losing (stunk),” Butler said. “(But) looking back, Black Hawk hasn’t done that in years, actually being in the sectional finals and almost making it to state.”

Monticello sophomore outside hitter Ellie Gustafson, Argyle junior outside hitter Maggie Godfrey, Pecatonica senior setter Sydney Eaton and Barneveld senior middle blocker Leah Marx all joined Butler on the first team.

Joining Mau on the second team were Albany junior Brianna Dahl, Pecatonica junior Tessa Green, Argyle junior Grace Ganshert, Monticello sophomore Macey Grant and Monticello junior Hannah Clark.

Monticello senior Alexa Siegenthaler was honorable mention, as were Argyle juniors Breann Flannery and Megan Johnson, Juda seniors Jocelyn Rufer and Maddie Smith, Albany senior Jada Flannery, Pecatonica senior Lily Busser and Barneveld’s Zoe Schmitz and Kennedy Gordon.

Black Hawk led the league with a 9-0 record, then reached the sectional final for the first time in 20 seasons. Monticello was 8-3 overall, with Argyle third at 7-4. Pecatonica finished 4-4, Barneveld 4-6, Albany 3-7 and Juda 0-11.
