Shullsburg’s 17-0 second half run keys win over Juda
Pec’s Noll drops 73 points over two games

JUDA — Down 25-20 at halftime, the Shullsburg Miners went on a 17-0 rampage to start the second half and beat the Juda Panthers, 54-38 in boys nonconference basketball on Friday, Dec. 12.

Behind 14 first-half points by senior Braydon Steinmann, the Panthers held a 25-20 lead, but the Miners charged back with three 3’s by sophomore Connor Doyle plus baskets by senior Cyril Martin, senior Logan Nethery, and sophomore Aden Wiegel to take control at 37-25. 

Doyle led the Miners with 14 points. Steinmann was held scoreless in the second half, but led Juda with 14 points. Senior Jayden Brown had 10 points for the Panthers. 

Juda (3-3, 1-2) was scheduled to host the Lincoln Academy on Monday, Dec. 15 in nonconference action before meeting Black Hawk at home in a Six Rivers East conference game on Thursday, Dec. 18.


Belmont 73, Pecatonica 71

BLANCHARDVILLE — Junior Griffin Noll racked up 38 points, but the Belmont Braves prevailed over the Pecatonica Vikings, 73-71 in nonconference boys basketball on Friday, Dec. 12.

Noll had just one three-point basket, but went 19-24 from the free throw line. Senior Cohlman Schlimigen had 12 points for Pecatonica. The Vikings fell behind at halftime 39-30 but rallied with a 41 point second half. Sophomore Thomas Freeman led the Belmont Braves with 27 points.

Pecatonica (5-1, 2-1) will travel Potosi to face Potosi-Cassville in nonconference action on Monday Dec. 22.


Pecatonica 68, Juda 44

BLANCHARDVILLE — Junior Griffin Noll put up 35 points to lead the unbeaten Pecatonica Vikings to a 68-44 win over the Juda Panthers in Six Rivers East conference boys basketball on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Noll racked up 22 points in the first half as the Vikings took a 36-21 halftime lead. Junior Martin Anderson also reached double figures with 11 points for Pecatonica. Senior Jayden Brown, who reached 1,000 points in his career earlier in the week, was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 14 points. Senior Teston Gobeli scored nine points, all in the second half, for Juda.

Pecatonica (5-0, 2-0) hosted Belmont while Juda (3-2, 1-1) hosted Shullsburg in nonconference action on Friday, Dec. 12.


River Ridge 55, Albany 40

ALBANY — Junior Ty Durtschi scored 22 points, but the River Ridge Timberwolves got a combined 34 points from Brock Bunge, Brandon Davis, and Lane Copsey to beat the Albany Comets 55-40 in nonconference boys basketball on Friday, Dec. 12.

Bunge dropped in 15 points, Davis had 13 points, and Copsey finished with nine points and 13 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves.

Albany fell to 1-2 overall. The Comets, 0-2 in the Six Rivers East will get back into conference action on Thursday, Dec. 18 at home against Argyle.


Argyle 79, Coulee Christian 46

WEST SALEM — The Argyle Orioles got a combined 53 points from senior Deacon Kuebli, junior Michell Johnson, and sophomore Mikey Helfvogt to take a 79-46 win on the road against Coulee Christian in nonconference boys basketball on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Kuebli scored 19 points, Johnson poured in 17 points, and Helfvogt added 17 points to help the Orioles get the win.

Argyle (2-1, 1-0) returned home to host Iowa-Grant in another nonconference game on Tuesday, Dec. 16.


Evansville 69, Brodhead 51

BRODHEAD — Senior Sam Searls scored 16 points and senior Nolan Bump added 14 points but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Brodhead Cardinals from losing their third straight game to start the season as the Evansville Blue Devils pulled away in the second half to win over the Cardinals, 69-51 in Rock Valley Conference, Rock Division boys basketball on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Sophomore Logan Krupke also scored in double figures with 11 points. The Cardinals trailed the Blue Devils 25-20 at halftime, but junior Matthew Wickersham connected on three three-pointers in the second half on his way to a game-high 26 points to lead Evansville to the win. 

The Cardinals (0-3, 0-2) will play their third straight home game as they host the Clinton Cougars in RVC-Rock Division action on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
