Serious injury ends Monroe game early

MONROE — A scary situation turned a potential draw into a forfeited loss for Monroe this week against Big Foot/Williams Bay.

Tied at 1-1 with just over 12 minutes to play against Big Foot/Williams Bay on Monday, Oct. 6, Monroe junior Reece McIntosh suffered a neck injury colliding with another player. Officials and medical personnel tended to McIntosh for several minutes before an ambulance and EMS were summoned and eventually transported McIntosh to UW Hospital, but released to his home on Tuesday, according to team officials.

Play during Monday’s game was suspended for nearly 45 minutes before an attempt to resume. Monroe did not wish to resume play and wanted the match to be declared a 1-1 tie, but Big Foot/Williams Bay staff wanted to resume. Officials declared Big Foot/Williams Bay the winner by forfeit, even though the scored was tied when play was stopped.

Earlier in the game against Big Foot/Williams Bay, the Cheesemakers got a first half goal from sophomore Emiliano Torres Enriquez, but the Chiefs scored less than a minute later to tie the match at 1-1.

The Cheesemakers played right away the next night against Jefferson and came away with a 0-0 tie. Sophomore Barrett Brandli had three saves in goal for Monroe.

Monroe (6-7-2, 3-3-1 Rock Valley) traveled to McFarland for a nonconference match on Thursday, Oct. 9.
