MCFARLAND — Athletes from Monroe, Brodhead-Juda, and Sugar River competed at the WIAA Division 2 Track and Field Sectional at McFarland on Friday, May 30.
In girls team standings, Brodhead-Juda finished in 11th place with 24 points. Monroe was 15th with 18 points and Sugar River finished in 19th place with 14. In the boys competition, Brodhead-Juda and Monroe tied for ninth place with 34 points. Sugar River finished in 22nd place as the Raiders accumulated eight points.
In the girls competition, senior Stella Arn of Brodhead-Juda qualified for state in two events. Arn won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.16 seconds. Arn also qualified for state by winning the 200 meter dash where she topped the field with a time of 25.11 seconds. In the girls 800 meter run, sophomore Maryella Green of Monroe placed ninth with a time of 2:31.34. In the girls 3,200 meter run, the Monroe Cheesemakers placed two runners in the top 10. Freshman Vicki Wolf was fifth in 12:05.39 and sophomore Nevaeh Huenefeld finished seventh with a time of 12:17:20.
The WIAA Track & Field State Championships will take place June 6-7, 2025 at UW-La Crosse.

The girls 100 meter hurdles saw sophomore Elliana Shank of Brodhead-Juda take fifth place with a time of 15.77. Sugar River qualified its 4x100 meter relay team for the state tournament as the relay team of junior Gracie Atkinson, freshman Vivian Lancaster, sophomore Kalia Malaise, and sophomore Layna Westphal finished in second place and completed the relay in 50.63 seconds.
The Monroe Cheesemakers finished in seventh place in the girls 4x400 meter relay. The relay team of junior Miley Hanson, junior Aniyah, Jackson-Bey, freshman Alivia Mosher, and junior Mya Wild was timed at 4:14.86. The Cheesemakers did qualify their 4x800 meter relay team for the state tournament in La Crosse as Jackson-Bey, Wild, Mosher, and Hanson earned a third place finish in 9:47.85.
In the girls high jump, two area athletes finished tied for 10th place. Senior Madi Brown of Brodhead-Juda and sophomore Braylee Frederich both high jumped four feet, 10 inches. The results in the girls long jump had junior Gracie Atkinson of Sugar River take 10th place with a long jump of 15 feet, 7.25 inches. Monroe’s Miley Hanson took 12th place with a long jump of 15 feet, 3.5 inches. In the triple jump, Hanson earned fifth place with a leap of 34 feet, 7.5 inches while Atkinson finished in eighth place with 34 feet, four inches.
In the boys 100 meter dash, senior Erik Woodward of Brodhead-Juda will represent the Cardinals at the State Tournament as he took third place and ran a state-qualifying time of 10.97 seconds. Sophomore Grayson Arn of Brodhead-Juda captured eighth place with a time of 11.33 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Cohen Henze of Brodhead-Juda finished in 10th place as he ran a time of 23.48 seconds. Brodhead-Juda qualified another athlete for the state tournament as junior Mavrik Plummer came in second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.46 seconds. Also, junior Jy’Shon Broitzman took sixth place with his time at 51.67 seconds. Plummer was also one of the top runners in the 800 meter run as he finished in sixth place with a time of 1:58.27.
Junior Tre Dammen of the Monroe Cheesemakers became a state qualifier as he took fifth place in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:25.31. Also in the 1,600 meter run, Benjamin Erdley of Monroe was 10th with a time of 4:48.88 and sophomore Dylan Gardner of Sugar River was 13th in 4:56.97. The 3,200 meter run saw senior Padriac Houston take seventh place at 10:11.35. The 110 meter hurdles had two athletes from the Cheesemakers finish back-to-back. Junior Will Keehn was 11th in a time of 17.50 seconds and freshman Killian Wild was 12th with a time of 11.54 seconds. Monroe junior Frank Wolf was sixth in the 300 meter hurdles (42.04).
In the boys 4x100 meter relay, Brodhead-Juda was the only area team to place as the Cardinals’ team of sophomore Grayson Arn, senior Erik Woodward, sophomore Cohen Henze, and junior Tegan Pinnow finished in third place and completed the relay in 43.47 seconds. The 4x200 meter relay resulted in the Monroe Cheesemakers taking 11th place as the team of junior Jy’Shon Broitzman, junior Noah Spotts, sophomore Eli Phillips, and senior Broderick Cornfield finished the relay in 1:34.76.
The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals are sending their 4x400 meter relay team to state as the team of Woodward, junior Jorge Villalva, Plummer, and junior Nolan Bump earned a third place finish in 3:25.14. The Monroe team of Broitzman, Cornfield, Spotts, and Wolf finished in fourth place with a time of 3:25.52. The Cheesemakers will be sending one of their relay teams to the state tournament as the 4x800 team of sophomore Elijah Cook, Dammen, sophomore Lukas Gerber, and sophomore Kamrin Gerber-Reamer took third place and qualified for state in 8:05.21.
The field events featured junior Tegan Pinnow of Brodhead-Juda tie for ninth place in the high jump with a jump of six feet. Brodhead-Juda also has a state qualifier in the pole vault as junior Simon Moore captured fifth place as he cleared the bar at 13 feet, 3 inches. Sugar River senior Andrew Sarbacker was seventh with a pole vault of 12 feet, 6 inches. Senior Seth Schmidt of Monroe will be heading to state as he took second place in the triple jump with a jump of 43 feet, 1/2 inches. The shot put showcased sophomore Brent Weeden of Sugar River and he came through with a third place finish which qualified him for state with a shot put of 54 feet, 3.50 inches. Junior Waylon Yoder of Monroe took sixth place as he tossed the shot put 50 feet, 6.50 inches. Senior Jonah Wortman of Sugar River won the 100 meter wheelchair dash in 26.63 seconds.
The WIAA State Track and Field Tournament will be Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at UW-La Crosse.
