Regular season closes: Monroe falls, Cards roll, Jubany sneaks past ABH late

MONROE — Monroe closed out its regular season with a 5-0 loss to Waunakee on May 22. The game was scoreless through the first four innings, but the Warriors plated runs in each of the final three innings to take the win.

Kaegann Paulson took the loss in the circle for Monroe, allowing eight hits and three walks against two strikeouts. Three of the five runs were earned. 

Maddi Ruegsegger and Jayde Hawkinson each had two hits for the Cheesemakers.


Juda-Albany 8, Argyle-Black Hawk 4

ARGYLE — In the final tune-up before their postseason begins, the Six Rivers rivals Juda-Albany and Argyle-Black Hawk came together for one last league tilt. Tied 4-4 through six innings, the visiting Panthers put a 4-spot up in the top of the seventh to break the deadlock and grab the win.

With one out, Jubany loaded the bases thanks a walk, a hit and an error. Anna Bartels then smacked a bases-clearing double to center to plate three runs, and Phoenix Homan followed with an RBI single to right on the very next pitch.

Jubany pitcher Emerson Briggs stranded one runner on the bases in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory. Briggs finished the night with six strikeouts, six walks, six hits and two earned runs in a complete game effort. 

Mya McNett took the loss for ABH, striking out five with five walks and seven hits, with five of the eight runs being earned.

Bartels and Homan each had three hits for Jubany. Bartels had two doubles and Homan had one. Kylie Butler had two hits for Argyle, including a triple. Teammate Rachel Helfvogt also tripled and was hit by a pitch. 


Brodhead 4, Evansville 1

EVANSVILLE — The Cardinals brushed off an unearned Blue Devils run in the bottom of the first inning to win the final Rock Valley game of the season May 22.

Ava Risum allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 14 in the circle. She also had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored on offense. Leadoff hitter Leah Rear belted a solo homer run, and Keegan Steinke and Karli Krumwiede each had two hits for Brodhead.
