MONROE — With time winding down in the regular season, the Cheesemakers have struggled stringing together match wins. Those troubles continued Sept. 16 in a dual with Baraboo, with Monroe losing 7-0.
“We continued to struggle in Badger play,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. “Baraboo had another very strong team and just really controlled the matches well tonight. I think we just aren’t quite up to the level of play that some of these higher level teams are in our conference but I definitely appreciate a lot of our players’ attitudes. I think it’s important to just find ways to keep improving and getting better as we get towards the home stretch of our schedule and get into subsectionals.”
Kylie Miller lost to Maggie Cleary at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Alicia Brunton fell at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Bella Brunton was defeated at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2, and Vaughn Barker lost at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Monroe’s Lydia Setterstrom and Sydney Conway lost 6-1, 6-1, the same score that Melena Brunton and Morgan Johnson had at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Allison Wunschel and Bre Giasson lost 6-3, 6-0.
Monroe was back in action Sept. 20 and 21 at home against Sauk Prairie and Fort Atkinson. The Badger Conference West Tournament is slated for Sept. 25 at Baraboo. Monroe then travels to Edgerton Sept. 27 for the final regular season dual. Subsectionals are scheduled for Oct. 4 at Lodi.
