HAZEL GREEN — A furious rally in the final two minutes made it possible for the Southwestern Wildcats to put an end to the Darlington Redbirds’ 16 game winning streak, 47-46 on Friday, Feb. 20 in SWAL conference boys basketball.
The Redbirds were up by 17 points with six minutes left in the game and had a 12-point lead with under two minutes to go. But, the Redbirds missed the front end of two free throws in the bonus and had two unforced turnovers and committed a foul in the final two minutes to help the Wildcats stage a comeback. Southwestern made three 3’s, scored a layup off a turnover, and made two free throws following a foul. In the end, the Redbirds weren’t able to secure a rebound off a missed shot by Aiden Keleher of Southwestern. The Wildcats got the ball to Drew Martin, who splashed a three with 4.5 seconds left. Darlington called timeout and set up a shot by junior Zeke Zuberbuhler, but it missed at the buzzer.
Zuberbuhler led Darlington with 18 points and senior Broker Buschor had 15 points and eight rebounds. The 46 points were a season-low for the Redbirds.
Darlington (19-3, 12-1) hosted New Glarus in a nonconference game on Monday, Feb. 23 and will finish the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 26 at home against Riverdale in SWAL conference action. The Redbirds are ranked No. 6 in the Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports media poll in Division 4 and are the No. 1 seed in the regional. They have a first round bye in the regional quarterfinal and will host either No. 9 seed Brodhead or No. 8 seed Belleville in a regional semifinal on Friday, March 6.
Brodhead 80, Clinton 58
CLINTON — The Brodhead Cardinals scored a season-high 80 points, including 48 points in the second half to get an 80-58 win over the Clinton Cougars in Rock Valley Conference-Rock Division boys basketball on Friday, Feb. 20.
Senior Sam Searls led the scoring for Brodhead with 24 points. Junior Landen Malcook pitched in with 19 points. Senior Nolan Bump and junior Dylan Ross each scored 14 points to help the Cardinals get the win.
Brodhead (4-18, 2-11 RVC-Rock) closed the regular season with a home game scheduled on Monday, Feb. 23 against Turner and a road game scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Big Foot. The Cardinals open the postseason at Belleville in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 3.
Cambridge 76, Belleville 70
BELLEVILLE — Senior Jackson Scholey had a double-double of a different variety with 21 points and 12 assists, but the Cambridge Blue Jays outlasted the Belleville Wildcats 76-70 in Capitol South Conference boys basketball on Friday, Feb. 20.
Senior Hazeon Edmond got 12 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Brody Funseth scored 12 points for the Wildcats, who have lost four of their last five games.
Belleville fell to 6-16 overall with the loss. The Wildcats are 3-6 in the Capitol South and had a nonconference game scheduled on Monday, Feb. 23 against Pardeeville. Belleville will close the regular season at home on Thursday, Feb. 26 against Waterloo in Capitol South Conference play before hosting Brodhead on Tuesday, March 3 in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.
Marshall 68, New Glarus 66
NEW GLARUS — The New Glarus Glarner Knights missed out on a chance to tie Cambridge for first place in the Capitol South Conference after the Marshall Cardinals edged the Knights 68-66 on Friday, Feb. 20.
The game was close all the way as Marshall took a 29-26 halftime lead. The Cardinals opened a 52-43 lead, but the Knights rallied and grabbed a 60-55 lead late in the game. Marshall tied the game at 66-66 and got possession of the ball with 1:00 to go and ran the clock down for a final shot. Brady Kleinheinz of Marshall scored a basket with 2.5 seconds left. New Glarus tried a three at the buzzer, but the shot was off the mark and Marshall hung on for a 68-66 win.
Senior Matt Roth led the Glarner Knights with 25 points, 20 of those points in the second half. Junior Nolan Julseth added 19 points for New Glarus.
The loss dropped New Glarus into a tie for second place in the Capitol South with Marshall at 7-2. Cambridge leads the league at 8-1.
New Glarus (14-8, 7-2 Capitol South) had a nonconference game scheduled at Darlington on Monday, Feb. 23. They will face Cambridge on the road with a chance to tie for the conference title on Thursday, Feb. 26. New Glarus has a No. 5 seed and will host No. 12 seed Viroqua in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 3.
Pecatonica 77, River Ridge 70
BLOOMINGTON — Junior Griffin Noll went off for a career-high 40 points, but the Pecatonica Vikings fell short against the River Ridge Timberwolves, 77-71 in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 20.
Noll topped his previous high of 38 points scored against Belmont on Dec. 12, 2025, which was one night after he scored 35 points against Juda. Noll connected on three 3’s and made 11 of 14 free throws.
Juniors Luke Leonard and Marty Anderson each tallied 10 points for the Vikings.
River Ridge held a 45-39 halftime lead before Noll struck for 28 points in the second half.
Pecatonica (16-7, 12-5 Six Rivers East) will finish their regular season on Thursday, Feb. 26 at home against the Black Hawk Warriors. They’ll open the Division 5 playoffs with a regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 3 at home against Rio.
Benton 46, Albany 36
BENTON — The Benton Zephyrs grabbed a 26-18 halftime lead and never let up, earning a 46-36 win over the Albany Comets in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game in boys basketball on Friday, Feb. 20.
The Comets’ only lead was early in the game and once the Zephyrs got a 15-11 lead in the first half, they never trailed. The Zephyrs held the Comets to a season-low 36 points.
Junior Ty Durtschi made three 3’s and scored 17 points to lead Albany. Senior Tyler Patchen scored six points for the Comets. Albany only attempted four free throws, all of them by Durtschi, who made two of them.
Albany (8-14, 6-12 Six Rivers East) will finish their regular season with a nonconference game at home against Fall River on Thursday, Feb. 26. After that, the Comets begin post-season play as a No. 11 seed as they travel to No. 6 seed Randolph for a Division 5 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 3.
Belmont 82, Argyle 55
BELMONT — Five players scored in double figures as the Belmont Braves ran over the Argyle Orioles 82-55 in a Six Rivers Conference crossover game on Friday, Feb. 20.
Belmont is ranked No. 6 in the latest Bound Wisconsin/Zaleski sports media poll for Division 5 boys basketball.
The Braves got a comfortable 44-22 lead at halftime. They made eight three-pointers and were led in scoring by sophomore Wyatt Temperly who had 16 points.
Senior Deacon Kuebli was the scoring leader for the Orioles with 28 points. Sophomore Joe Soper contributed in scoring with 10 points as Argyle lost their fourth straight game.
Argyle (9-13, 7-9 Six Rivers East) played at River Ridge in another Six Rivers conference crossover game scheduled on Monday, Feb. 23. The Orioles conclude the regular season with a Six Rivers Conference game at Monticello on Thursday, Feb. 26. Argyle is a No. 10 seed for the Division 5 playoffs and will travel to No. 7 seed Fall River for a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday, March 3.
Monticello 70, Highland 68, OT
HIGHLAND — Junior Tyler Constantini made two free throws with three seconds left in overtime to get the Monticello Ponies their first win of the season, 70-68 on Friday, Feb. 20.
Constantini’s free throws were his only points of the game and made a winner out of Monticello for the first time since a 70-58 win over Juda on Feb. 4, 2025 and snapped a 28-game losing streak.
The Ponies were down 61-58 when junior Tanner Hilliard buried a three with three seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 61-61.
In overtime, sophomore Cayden Marti scored a three-point basket with under a minute to go to give the Ponies a 68-66 lead. Highland answered with a basket to tie the score at 68-68. With possession of the ball, the Ponies set up a play with 15 seconds left. Constantini got the ball and drove in for a layup and was fouled with three seconds left in OT. Constantini made two free throws and the Cardinals turned the ball over without getting off a shot and the Ponies won 70-68.
Junior Hunter Grossen led the Ponies with 29 points. Hilliard got 14 points for Monticello.
The Ponies (1-21, 1-16) had a nonconference game scheduled for Monday Feb. 23 at home against Williams Bay. Monticello wraps up Six Rivers conference action on Thursday Feb. 26 at home against Argyle. They’ll enter the post-season as a No. 16 seed on the road at No. 1 seed Abundant Life Christian on Tuesday, March 3 in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal.
In other boys high school basketball on Friday, Feb. 20, Potosi-Cassville downed Black Hawk 75-37.
