Redbirds open season fourth

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds’ girls golf team opened its WIAA 2020 fall season with a fourth-place finish in a five-team SWAL mini-meet at the Darlington Country Club Aug. 27.

Josie Thomas led Darlington with a 14-over-par 49, while Josie Meister carded a 51. Brianna Gavinski (58), Sophie Wigel (58) and Alexis Bridges (63) also competed on varsity for the Redbirds.

Payton Gratz led the Darlington junior varsity with a 66. 

Lancaster’s Brianna Kirsch was the medalist with a 44. Wisconsin Dells’ Gracie Walker was second with a 45, followed by Morgan Cooley of Lancaster (48). Thomas was in a three-way tie for fourth.

Wisconsin Dells won the meet with a team score of 194. Lancaster finished second (203), with Southwestern/Cuba City third (209), Darlington fourth (216) and Prairie du Chien fifth (280). 

The Redbirds were back in action Aug. 31 at Prairie du Chien. Results were unavailable by press time.
