DARLINGTON — The Redbirds kicked off the 2024 season with a home dual against Southwestern-Cuba City-Benton on Friday, Aug. 16.

As the first event of the season, Darlington head coach Molly Rice said it was the perfect opportunity for her team to gain experience.

The 2024 Redbird squad looks much different than last season, with just two returners in Elie Riechers and Makenna Martin, both of whom competed at the JV level.

Outside of those two, not many players have golfing experience, as there are seven freshmen.

“I was extremely proud of all the golfers today in their first ever varsity meet,” Rice said. “I am sure there were nerves, but they pushed through, did their best, and had great attitudes. I look forward to the growth in these young ladies as the season progresses.”

S-CC-B won 205-280. The top golfer was Brooklyn Bussan with a 42.

Darlington’s No. 2 golfer, Riechers, had the top score for the Redbirds with a 61.
