FENNIMORE — With its 66-13win over Fennimore (2-7, 1-6) on Friday, Oct. 14, Darlington (8-1, 7-0) won the SWAL conference outright.
The Redbirds opened the game with a 32-point first quarter. The Goebels, Maddox and Breylin, accounted for all four touchdowns. Breylin ran for nine and 18-yard scores, while Maddox returned a punt and scampered for three yards.
In the second quarter, it was the Crists. Ross Crist rushed for a five-yard touchdown, while Tye Crist broke free for a 73-yard scoring drive. With just under a minute left in the half, Eli Crist converted a pick-six.
Fennimore scored all 13 of its points in the second quarter. Max Miles ran for 53 yards and caught a pass from Tristan Steldt.
Darlington tacked on 13 more points in the second half on two rushing touchdowns from Taggart Gille.
The Redbirds ran for 424 yards in the victory, with eight different players getting touches. Tye Crist and Taggart Gille were the top two rushers with 136 and 94 yards, respectively. Aside from Eli Crist, Danick Haesler also snagged two interceptions.
No. 2 Darlington hosts Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg (5-4, 4-3 Six Rivers) on Friday, Oct. 21.
BLACK HAWK 48, PECATONICA/ARGYLE 0
WARREN — Black Hawk (6-3, 4-3 Six Rivers) is getting hot at the right time, as the team shut out Pecatonica/Argyle (0-8-1, 0-6) on Friday, Oct. 14.
Landen Mahoney scored both of the Warriors’ touchdowns in the first quarter with one- and two-yard runs.
He started the second where he left off the first with a 13-yard touchdown run. Then it was Reed McNutt’s turn. McNutt scored the other two touchdowns of the second quarter on three and 20-yard runs.
Lucas Milz, who ran for four of the six two-point conversions, recorded Black Hawk’s final touchdown in the third quarter on a nine-yard run. Milz ended the game with 151 of the team’s 290 rushing yards.
Black Hawk hosts Highland (6-3, 5-2 Ridge & Valley) in the first round of the WIAA tournament. Pecatonica/Argyle did not qualify for playoffs.
BELLEVILLE 58, PARKVIEW/ALBANY 6
BELLEVILLE — Belleville (8-1, 6-1 SWAL) used a balanced offense in its victory over Parkview/Albany (0-9, 0-7) on Friday, Oct. 14.
The Wildcats took a 51-0 lead before the Vikings were able to get on the board in the fourth quarter. By that time Aidan Keyes had four touchdown passes to three different receivers: Kaden Desmet, DeMarcus Connor and Andrew Ace.
The remaining points came from a Logan Derke 53-yard touchdown run and Jake Fahey 20-yard field goal.
In the fourth quarter, Parkview/Albany scored on a seven-yard rush by Karson Redman. Belleville also scored in the fourth, with a two-yard run by Trei Udelhoven.
Parkview/Albany missed out on the playoffs, but No. 3 Belleville will host Westby (6-3, 4-3 Coulee).
COLUMBUS 56, NG/MONTICELLO 14
COLUMBUS — The New Glarus/Monticello co-op (1-8, 1-6) fell to Capitol Conference champion Columbus (9-0, 7-0) in its last regular season game.
The Cardinals, ranked second in Division 4, scored 49 points in the first half, starting with a fumble recovery returned by Brady Link. Colton Brunell and Corbin Hynes combined for the other three touchdowns in the first quarter — Brunnell running and Hynes kicking.
In the second quarter, Nathan Cotter threw two touchdown passes, one each to Jefferson Mobry and Link. Brunell recorded his fourth touchdown on a one-yard run.
NGM got on the board with a 51-yard pass from Ethan Friedrich to Cade Thayer in the third quarter. Its remaining points came on a 65-yard rush.
Columbus closed out the game with an eight-yard touchdown run by Owen Cowell.
Max Marty was 3-for-13 in the air for 10 yards. On the ground, he had 13 carries for 58 yards. Thayer caught three passes for a total of 61 yards.
Although NGM did not make the playoffs, the team will play Southwestern in an exhibition game on Friday, Oct. 21.
