BOSCOBEL — Darlington’s boys cross country team finished third in the SWAL conference championship meet held Oct. 13 at the Ryan Zimpel Memorial Course in Boscobel.
Rhett Reuter of Darlington was second overall, finishing with a time of 16 minutes, 49.7 seconds. He trailed champion Nick Connolly of Iowa-Grant by just over 26 seconds.
The top 15 in each race receive all-conference honors. Joining Reuter on the boys all-conference team were Gage Roth (7th, 18:03.4) of Albany, Cristian Guiterrez (8th, 18:03.6) of Darlington and Jesse Schwartz (9th, 18:08.5) of Albany. Pecatonica-Argyle’s David Tisch was 11th (18:14.4).
Boscobel won the team title with a score of 52 points, just ahead of Iowa-Grant (62). Darlington (74) was third, followed by Southwestern-Cuba City-Benton (98), Albany (123), Fennimore (139) and Riverdale (153).
Scoring for Darlington included Caleb Weaver (17th, 28:28.9), Ethan Thompson (22nd, 19:01.1) and Michael Thompson (30th, 19:31.0).
Owen Baertschi (33rd, 19:45.1), Brayden Bakken (40th, 20:21.1) and Drew Sertle (42nd, 20:26.7) scored for Albany.
Ridge Toay (18:58.4) of Pec-Argyle was 21st overall, with Brady Penniston (38th, 20:12.5) and Nathan Nickels (50th, 21:55.3) also competing. Pec-Argyle was one runner shy of scoring in the team standings.
Up next is the WIAA Division 3 subsectionals on Oct. 20. Darlington and Pec-Argyle will return to Boscobel. The sectional will be held at Darlington Oct. 24.
Albany is hosting its subsectional at Baertschi Farms on Oct. 20, with the sectional slated for Oct. 24 in Racine, hosted by The Prairie School.
