Raiders stay unbeaten with 3-1 win over L-Cats

The Sugar River Raiders are undefeated after a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Lake Mills L-Cats in Capitol Conference high school soccer April 15 at New Glarus. Sugar River scored first as senior Kylie Humke powered a goal at 13:37 with Cora Funseth getting the assist. Lake Mills tied it at 1-1 at 32:27 on a penalty kick. The Raiders regained the lead 25 seconds later at 2-1 as senior Anya Brenkman scored a goal at 32:52 on senior Audry Brueggemann’s assist. 

The Raiders got an insurance goal in the second half with Brenkman tallying a goal at 40:25 on Brueggemann’s assist, putting the Raiders ahead to stay at 3-1. Senior goaltender Mackenzie Ohms was solid in the net for Sugar River, allowing just one goal and recording three saves.

Sugar River is now 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Capitol Conference. The Raiders are now ranked No. 8 in Division 3. Sugar River played a non-conference match against Mount Horeb at Belleville on April 17.

In other area soccer action, Monroe lost to Edgerton 6-0 on April 15. The Cheesemakers played at Big Foot-Williams Bay on April 17.
