DEFOREST — The Sugar Rivers Raiders lost in the WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal. After beating Evansville 2-0 in the regional final on May 6, the Raiders lost to McFarland 4-0 two days later to see the spring season come to a close.
In the regional final, Breckin Faber and Logan Niesen had goals for the Raiders, while Aiden Hatleberg and Ryan Downing finished with assists. Niesen broke a 0-0 tie at the 69:23 mark off a pass from Downing. With less than four minutes to play, Faber broke the back of the Blue Jays, putting an assist from Hatleberg into the back of the net.
Cam Kleibor had seven saves in the contest.
In the sectional semifinal, McFarland’s Zach Nichols had an assist and two goals. The Spartans scored three goals in the second half to seal the victory. In the sectional final, the Spartans toppled host DeForest 2-0, returning to state for the third straight season.
