Dodgeville-Mineral Point 3, Monroe 2

MONROE — The Dodgers used a second-half comeback to slice the Cheese down in a nonconference battle Aug. 25. Monroe went into halftime with a 2-0 lead, only to let the Dodgers back into the game, then ultimately win it.

Caleb Figi scored Monroe’s first goal on a rebound off a corner kick in the first half. Later in the frame, Hassan Mustafa sent a through ball from midfield into open space, where Figi had two steps on his defender. His 1-on-1 shot was initially saved by the DMP keeper, though the ball trickled toward the net. Figi then out-ran and out-muscled a DMP defender to the ball, slamming it into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

Less than 2 ½ minutes into the second half, DMP got on the board on a rush that snuck behind the Monroe defensive line. Thirteen minutes later, DMP scored the equalizer on a rebound shot from the top of the 18. Not even five minutes later the Cheesemakers found themselves trailing after a breakaway DMP goal.
