Raiders keep on winning

BELLEVILLE — The Raiders improved to 5-0 with a 10-0 thumping of Dodgeland-Hustisford Sept. 6. 

Charlie Douma had a hat trick and Jack Gentilli and Bryson Jelle each had two goals for Sugar River. Logan Winklepeck, Jaden Kreklow and Justin Knoebl also scored.

Gentilli had two assists, as did Knoeble. Kreklow, Winklepeck, Jack Nolden and Milo Hoesly each had an assist.

“Strong performance by the Sugar River Raiders,” coach Kyle Webber said. “(Our) boys did a good job working the ball around and finding open players. We had a number of opportunities to put the ball on the net. The boys did a good job capitalizing on their chances.”

The Raiders scored six goals in the first half and four in the second half. They outshot Dodgeland-Hustisford 24-12 and 15-3 on goal. Julian Lutz had two saves for Sugar River and teammate Dylan Posthuma had one save.


Monroe falls to Whitewater, Evansville

MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost 2-1 to Whitewater in a nonconference game Sept. 6.

Monroe trailed 2-0 at halftime after two goals by Shawn Chan of the Whippets. Roman Bauer scored a goal on an assist by Daniel Lapp in the second half to keep Monroe in the game. 

Alex Barradas had three shots on goal for the Cheesemakers and Devan Schulte had 14 saves.

On Sept. 8, Evansville blanked Monroe 3-0 in a nonconference game, scoring two in the first half and another in the second. Schulte had seven saves, but Monroe put just four shots on goal. 

The Cheesemakers were scheduled to play Oregon Tuesday and travel to Cambridge for a nonconference game Thursday. Monroe’s Sept. 4 game against Reedsburg was postponed due to flooding and has been rescheduled for Sept. 24 at Honey Creek Park in Monroe.
