Raiders edge MG at Swiss Kick

NEW GLARUS — Sugar River won the Swiss Kick Tournament May 11, going 2-0.

In the first game of the day, the Raiders beat Beloit Memorial 2-0. Kallie Ace scored the first goal of the game midway through the first half on a left-footed kick from the left side of the box. The shot screamed passed a rushing defender, but was launched over the head of the Memorial netminder off of a tough angle.

Paige Leonard added a goal in the second half to seal the victory. Rachael Heittola needed to save just one shot in goal for the Raiders.

Monona Grove then beat Columbus 4-0 to set up the title game. Sugar River and MG played to a scoreless tie, with Sugar River winning in a shootout of penalty kicks, 2-1.

Heittola had seven saves, including four penalty kicks.

Beloit Memorial beat Columbus in the third-place game.


Stoughton 2, Monroe 0

STOUGHTON — The Cheesemakers gave up two first half goals to the Vikings in a Badger South Conference game May 10.

Anna Latimer played all 90 minutes in net for Monroe and had nine saves. Lydia Butler had three shots on goal for the Cheesemakers, while Zoee Pond had two shots and Anika Einbeck one.
