BRODHEAD — After getting snowed out Jan. 22, the Raiders and Cardinals stepped on the mats Jan. 24 for a nonconference dual. Sugar River won 35-30 thanks to one extra forfeit.

The Raiders conceded two matches to the Cardinals, while Brodhead-Juda gave up three weight classes. There were also two double-forfeits.

Sugar River’s Joe Quaglia defeated Russell Waeffler in an 11-0 major decision in the 120-pound match. The Raiders picked up another win in the next bout, with Avery Lettman also winning by a major decision, 10-0 against Mario Reyes at 126 pounds.

In the 138-pound match, Brodhead-Juda’s Jayson Starr pinned Cade Femrite in 2:58. 

Robert Chenoweth, wrestling at 145, pinned Brodhead-Juda’s Brian McCollough at 5:07.

Jackson Hauri pinned Sugar River’s Rudy Wicker in the 152 match (1:54). 

Jack Diederich won a 7-0 decision against Brodhead-Juda’s Cole Hoesly at 160.

In the last wrestled match of the night, Brodhead-Juda’s Blaine Berget pinned Lance Varney in 2:39.

Cardinals ninth at 18-team Deerfield Scramble

DEERFIELD — Brodhead Juda finished with 332 team points and finished ninth at the 18-team Deerfield Scramble Jan. 26. Stoughton (829) took first, while Kenosha Christian Life (580) was second.

Hauri (28-2) finished second overall, going 4-1 on the day and only losing to Random Lake’s Aiden Vandenbush (30-3) by pin-fall at 3:08 in the championship. 

Seth Mansfield finished fourth at 106, McCollough was fifth at 145 and Starr was sixth at 138.
