BRODHEAD — Blake Thiry was a thorn in the Cardinals’ side, as the back scored all three of Prairie du Chien’s touchdowns in a 21-0 win over Brodhead-Juda on Friday, Oct. 6.
Thiry accounted for 182 of the Blackhawks’ 317 total yards. Meanwhile, Prairie du Chien limited Brodhead-Juda to just 126 yards of total offense. Isaac Saunders and Marcus McIntyre were the leading rushers with 31 and 8 yards, respectively. In the air, Gabe Bockhop went 10-for-19 for 85 yards. His main targets were Brody Riese (5 rec, 44 yds) and Gunner Boegli (3 rec, 24 yds).
Following Friday’s game, Prairie du Chien and Brodhead-Juda, both ranked in the top 10 in Division 5, move into a tie for third in the SWC behind Lancaster (5-1) and Platteville (6-0). With their 43-0 win over Poynette, the Hillmen earned at least a share of the conference title.
BHW 60, BSMS 0
SOUTH WAYNE — Following a 41-20 loss to Potosi-Cassville in Week 7, the Warriors rebounded against the Knights on Friday, Oct. 6.
“I think the team responded well from last week’s adversity and got back to playing with a swagger and a chip on their shoulder,” Black Hawk-Warren head coach Desmond Breadon said. “We talked all week about overcoming adversity in football and how that helps you prepare for overcoming adversity in life.”
In the first quarter alone, the Warriors scored 32 points with two rushing touchdowns each from Lane Marty and Owen Seffrood. Each touchdown was backed up with a 2-point conversion — two rushes by Marty and two passes from Eli Schliem.
Piercen Mahoney kicked off the second half with a pick-6, taking the ball back 45 yards to the end zone. BHW extended its lead to 54-0 with 20-plus-yard TDs from Seffrood and Andrew Figi. Quincy Adams capped the scoring in the third quarter with a 2-yard TD.
Seven different backs accounted for the Warriors’ 380 rushing yards — Marty (4 att, 147 yds, 2 TD), Adams (4 att, 40 yds 1 TD), Seffrood (3 att, 101 yds, 2 TD), Schliem (3 att, 46 yds), Riley Mosley (3 att, 19 yds), Mahoney (3 att, 6 yds) and Figi (1 att, 21 yds, 1 TD). In the air, Seffrood completed an 81-yard pass to Figi. Defensively, Mahoney, Figi and Mosley hauled in an interception each, while James Holland forced a fumble.
Aside from a pivotal win, the game was special for BHW as it was the team’s Pink Out game. The Warriors held a Miracle Minute at halftime, where half of the proceeds were donated to Kindness for Carson and the other half to the UW Kids Cancer Funk. As a program, BHW donated $1,000 directly to the UW Kids Cancer Fund.
“We have to give credit to Coach Golembiewski and the Monroe football program for the idea to donate to a cancer organization,” Breadon said. “I thought it was a great idea that Coach Golembiewski had and we wanted to do something similar. This was just another thing this week that we talked with the players — there are bigger things in life.”
SOUTHWESTERN-EAST DUBUQUE 43, PECATONICA-ARGYLE 14
ARGYLE — After the Vikings knotted the score at 7-7, the Warcats scored 30 points en route to a Week 8 victory on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Bradey Huseman put SW-ED on the board with a 28-yard rushing TD and successful extra point. With 36 seconds left in the first quarter, Max Godfrey connected with Tyler McKeon for a 14-yard TD pass to tie the game.
The tie lasted all but 19 seconds, as Huseman broke away for a 75-yard TD run with 17 seconds left in the first quarter. SW-ED scored another 24 points over the second and fourth quarters for a convincing 43-7 lead. Godfrey and McKeon found each other again for a TD late in the fourth, but the Warcats’ lead was too great.
Godfrey finished 16-for-32 passing for 260 yards with two INTs and two TDs. McKeon caught both TD passes in his 107-yard total. On the ground, Talen Havens led with 28 yards on six carries. Defensively, Havens paced the Vikings with 22 tackles.
Saturday’s game also concluded homecoming week for Argyle. During halftime, Josie Penniston and Tom Ritschard were inducted into the Argyle Hall of Fame. Penniston, a 2017 graduate, was a multi-Six Rivers East Conference champion in track and previously held Pecatonica-Argyle cross country team’s 5,000-meter record. Ritschard was an avid Orioles fan and kept book for girls basketball games while his kids coached.
LODI 49, NGM 7
NEW GLARUS — The Knights faced a tough conference opponent in the No. 2-ranked Blue Devils on Friday, Oct. 6. Just a week prior, Lodi had defeated defending Division 5 state champion Columbus 28-0. NGM’s lone score came in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard TD pass from Max Marty to Jake Roth.
Lodi limited NGM to just 100 total yards of offense. Marty finished 6-for-15 passing for 33 yards with one INT and one TD. Cade Thayer and Roth were the main targets with two receptions each. Marty also paced the Knights on the ground with 11 carries for 36 yards. Defensively, he chipped in 13 tackles.
The Knights (3-3) conclude their regular season against Columbus (5-1) on Friday, Oct. 13. The game will likely be the last on New Glarus’s field with the co-op ending this season and the school referendum.
In other local football, East Troy forfeited to Monroe. The Trojans announced July 21 that they would not field a varsity football team. After unsuccessfully finding an opponent to fill the Week 8 game, Monroe used the week to rest and recover. The Cheesemakers conclude their regular season with a road game against Whitewater on Oct. 13, where a win gives Monroe the outright Rock Valley Conference title.
Parkview-Albany forfeited to Mineral Point. The Vikings have forfeited three of their last four games and been shut out in two of their five contests.
