MONTICELLO — The Lady Ponies scored an 80-29 win over Wayland Academy Dec. 3. It was the second game in a row Monticello has scored more than 70 points and held its opponent to under 30.

Senior Alyssen Noriega scored 22 points, had 11 assists and four steals to lead the Ponies, which led 53-12 at halftime. Noriega opened the second half with a bang, nailing two 3-pointers and scoring 10 points in the first four the minutes of the half.

Seniors Lindsey Pence and Abby Wicker had 10 for Monticello and sophomore Harley Disch scored 11 of her 13 points in the opening half. Ten Ponies scored in the game, eight in the first half. Errthum had 11 rebounds to lead the Ponies, which also got 10 from Wicker, nine from Claire Klossner and eight from Noriega.

Monticello had just 11 fouls in the game, went 4-for-6 from the free throw line and hit six 3s. Wayland Academy, made up of players from across the globe, including Japan, Spain, the Bahamas, Saudi Arabia and New York, committed just seven fouls in the rout and went 2-for-9 from the free throw line as a team. Aryanna Oestreicher scored 19 to lead Wayland, hitting five 3s. Wayland had just two 2-point field goals in the game, but had seven 3s.

The Ponies (4-2, 1-0 Six Rivers East) were scheduled to face Pecatonica (2-4, 0-1) Dec. 6 and Black Hawk (4-0, 1-0) Dec. 11.

Black Hawk 42, Platteville 39

PLATTEVILLE — The Warriors were pushed into the final minute of a regular season game for the first time in almost two years, hanging on to knock off Platteville Dec. 3.

Black Hawk (4-0) came into the game as the top-ranked team in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll and led 31-18 at halftime against the Hillmen (3-1), which are ranked fifth in the Division 2 poll. Platteville made a push deep into the second half and a controversial dead ball call added to the tension on the court and in the stands.

Bailey Butler led all scorers with 20 points for Black Hawk, which also got 10 points from Natalie Leuzinger and eight from Hannah Butler. The Warriors finished 14 of 37 from the field and just 5 of 16 from beyond the arc. 

Black Hawk also finished the game with four players with four fouls and another with three fouls and was whistled 22 times in the game. Platteville was whistled 17 times and had three players in foul trouble.

Becca Hoyer led the Hillmen with 13 points and Sami Martin had 10 points and 14 rebounds.


Darlington 76, Richland Center 58

DARLINGTON — Four Redbirds reach double figures as Darlington picked up a big nonconference win Dec. 4.

Kaylee Meyers led all scorers with 28 points and four 3s. Reagan Crist had 13 points, Kathleen Mathias scored 17 and Bethany McDonald had 10 for the Redbirds. Darlington made 11 3s as a team.

Richland Center had three players in double figures and hit seven 3s.

Darlington jumped out to a 38-32 lead at halftime and pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Hornets 38-26 in the final 18 minutes.

In other area action, New Glarus lost to Lodi Dec. 4 61-32.
