CLINTON — Junior Maddy Place scored 30 points to lead the Black Hawk Warriors to a 49-39 win over the Clinton Cougars in non-conference girls basketball on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The game was tied at 16-16 at halftime, but the Warriors pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 33-23. Neither team shot well, with the Warriors connecting on just 30 percent (15-50) and the Cougars making just 25 percent (14-56). But the big difference in the game came at the free throw line as Black Hawk made 18 of 25 (72 percent) and Clinton made just 11 of 21 (52 percent).
Senior Mya Milz scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and had three steals. Senior Keira Brunner also recorded double digits in rebounds with 11.
The Warriors (2-0) faced the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards in non-conference girls basketball action on Tuesday Nov. 25 at South Wayne.
Albany-Monticello 72, Randolph 43
RANDOLPH — Senior Emerson Butts scored 20 points while senior Molly Olson added 16 and sophomore Heidi Olson chipped in with 14 points to lead Albany Monticello to a 72-43 rout of the Randolph Rockets in a girls non-conference basketball game on Friday, Nov. 21.
The Space Stallions seized control of the game early and jumped out to a 31-14 halftime lead. Albany-Monticello went off for 41 points in the second half behind a pair of three-pointers by Molly Olson and Heidi Olson. The Rockets (1-1) committed 27 turnovers for the game. Sophomore Emma Thompson gave the Space Stallions additional scoring depth with eight points and senior Emerson Briggs contributed six points in the road win.
Albany-Monticello (2-0) played a non-conference game on the road at Iowa-Grant on Monday Nov. 24.
Albany-Monticello 62, Iowa-Grant 31
LIVINGSTON — Four players scored in double figures to lead the Albany-Monticello Space Stallions to a 62-31 win over the Iowa-Grant Panthers in non-conference girls basketball on Monday, Nov. 24.
Sophomore Heidi Olson was the leading scorer for the Space Stallions with 17 points. Sophomore Emma Thompson scored 14 points, freshman Emerson Butts scored 11 points, and senior Molly Olson had 10 points in the win for the Space Stallions. Albany-Monticello dominated the first half by taking a 37-9 halftime lead.
Albany-Monticello (3-0) will begin Six Rivers East conference play on Tuesday Dec. 2 when they host Argyle-Pecatonica.
